Saw this on Twitter about spiderman and thought it was pretty interesting news.

Venom and Carnage are the two best spiderman villains in my opinion.
You can always spot 90's comics readers.

You probably thought Spawn was the **** too.

I'm just teasing, I like Venom ok. But I think all the other Symbiotes are going a bit overboard.

Where did this come from? Recently mined from the Sony hacks or something?

It seems like a shame that after 5 Spider-Man movies, we still don't have a legitimate Venom showdown. I always thought Venom was more of Peter's archnemesis than Green Goblin was, but I'm admittedly a bit ignorant on the subject.

How dead is all of that? The solo movies won't be out of the Marvel studio, right? I know that they will have heavy input and even control... just not totally sure of that relationship.

I have fond teenage memories of Maximum Carnage, but I think he's a pretty average villain compared to the rest of Spider-Man's rogues gallery. I feel like he has little depth because he is just a psychopath. Venom, Doc Ock, and Green Goblin are all better. Rhino, Sandman, Electro, and Scorpion all have more actual character as well. Carnage looks cool and kills a lot of people, so there's that.

I know they want young, but they're going too young. Was really hoping for Logan Lerman.

While true, with the age these kids are they'll look incredibly different in 12 to 18 months when they start filming. I'm not familiar with any of the actors except Asa Butterfield though, will have to look them up.

I will say that after the run Drew Goddard put together on Daredevil I'm excited to see what he can do with Spidey.

The reason they're testing/casting now is because Civil War starts shooting THIS week, for the next six months. I'm sure the Spidey stuff will be toward the end of the shoot, but point is, that's probably only three or four months from now, not 12 to 18.

Why is this too young? Seem like the perfect, accurate/appropriate age. I'm all for an actual teenager in the role. Parker needs to be a boy amongst men in this iteration. That's kind of the whole point.

If Sony/Marvel had their current deal in place back in 2008, Spiderman would have been part of Phase 1, right?

It seems like Phase 1 was about the creation of superheros by plausible science experiments gone awry (Iron Man, Hulk, Capt America), and now we're getting ready for all the weird & wacky aspects (Dr Strange, Guardians, Inhumans) of Marvel to bust on to the scene.

Figured Civil War was soon but didn't realize it was THAT soon. I'm also curious how big the Spidey/Parker part in Civil War will be.

Marvel is also making an animated Spider-Man movie that comes out one year after the solo film. Chris Miller and Phil Lord are supposed to produce and write and maybe direct.

They always say they're going to go young, but the age of who they pick creeps up and up. I'm sure Nat would be great, but if the intent is for Spidey to STAY a high-schooler, how long can that go on if he's already 20, so will be at least 21 when filming his first feature? I guess 21 can play 16, but by the time Spidey 2 rolls around he'll be 24 playing 17, probably?

Andrew Garfield graduated from high school at age 30 in the last film.

I know they really stretch it. Maybe it will be no big deal. But, when they cast Garfield, their original plan was for Peter to remain in high school, but they skewed it older when they found their dude.

Just noting the trend. In Marvel I trust.

Q: People don't really stay dead in Marvel movies. I think we've had to deal with Loki dying four, five, 12 times. Coulson coming back. Fury comes back mid-film inCaptain America: The Winter Soldier ... How many more times do you think a character's death can have an impact if it doesn't have a permanent effect?

A: A lot of people come back in The Winter Soldier. It's a grand Marvel tradition. Bucky was supposed to die. And the Coulson thing was, I think, a little anomalous just because that really came from the television division, which is sort of considered to be its own subsection of the Marvel universe. As far as the fiction of the movies, Coulson is dead.

That would seem to go against, well, just about everything else. I wonder if Whedon is speaking on his own on this one.

Q: So, I don't know if this is kosher to ask, but of the other Marvel movies, do you have a favourite?

A: Of the Marvel movies besides mine? I think it's probably still the first Iron Man. That's where it all started and it's never more exciting than when it starts. But they all have a place in my heart. Except Iron Man 2; it doesn't have a place in my heart.

Yeah, but it's supposed to be all one universe. Hill, Fury, and Sif all know that Coulson is alive. Those are direct links to the Movie universe. He may not be making his way back to the movies, but to suggest that he is dead in movies is different.

I can understand if he said that Coulson would not be coming back into the movies, but the way he said it kind of flies in the face of everything they have said about both the show and the movies being connected. I don't have a problem with killing characters off, but if I remember correctly Joss was created in helping creating AoS with his brother, so it just seems like there is some disconnect....

I think he mostly means that Stark, Rogers and Banner aren't going to be like "Hey by the way, Coulson isn't dead! You lied to us, Nick!"

He's alive in the greater MCU, but as far as the movies are concerned, his death served its purpose. He won't be popping in to stay hello, and whether or not you know that he's alive on Agents of Shield will have no bearing in Age of Ultron.

Just my take.

Iirc, many doubted jw to be able to make a blockbuster movie. He had been able to make decent tv series but his films had been very niche. Disney took a huge gamble putting him on avengers, if he couldn't pull it off, not only would the lost revenue of that film cost em, but the brand of the marvel and the mcu would take a step back, costing them earnings for all these side projects.

Now jw is a proven commodity and he is being a btch. The funny thing is he can't jump to DC because the are trying to go gritty and that isn't jw's forte. So he is alienating the franchises he could do best.

Are Marvel Studios and Marvel Television Suffering a Communications Breakdown?

quote:
In a separate interview with BuzzFeed, Whedon claims, "They didn't actually want me to make [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.] It's like, 'Uh, Joss, we really wanted you to do [Age of Ultron]. Instead you created a TV show, you moron.' 'I thought you wanted me to!' 'No, we just wanted you to make a movie.' 'Oh. My bad.' It went from being absolutely 100% the driving force and totally hands-on to 'That sounds great, [Jed Whedon]! You should do that!'"
quote:
there's this statement from Kevin Feige: "They had said early on, 'Hey, we're thinking about doing this show about the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Joss said, 'I think I might do this.' I said, 'That's cool. God bless you. But you should know that we're destroying S.H.I.E.L.D. in Winter Soldier. You guys do whatever you want. But know that that's what we're going to do.'" Based on this statement, it appears Disney and Marvel were moving forward with the idea of a show regardless of Feige's "grand plan," and Whedon only hopped on board because Coulson's resurrection was happening with or without him and it was probably better off happening with him.
