Discussion question for yall:

What do you guys know about the character Jessica Jones? Specifically, what do you think we can expect from the Netflix show? She's next in line after Daredevil (which, 9 episodes in, is excellent). I don't know a whole lot about her except what I skimmed from Wikipedia. Think she can carry her own show?

I saw she was created in ~2001 or so, so it's not like they have a whole lot of history to work with.

She'll be a vehicle to take us on a tour through the street level if the MCU, I think, from the POV of a "normal" person who has been touched by the world of supers. I think it will start as a basic procedural show, but threads will start to connect as the bigger picture comes into view.

She's not totally normal though. She has powers. In her words "I am stronger than normal and I can fly a little". Basically she got really crappy powers and instead of getting herself killed being a hero she decides to become a P.I. instead.

She became a PI after trying the superhero thing, to about the most disastrous result possible. I dont think they've said yet which part of the story we will be getting.

How do you "fly a little?"

Can she just hover or jump small buildings in a single bound or what?

She was really terrible at it apparently, lol. Like she didn't know how to steer or land properly.

And if you look at DD that's not far off from what's already happening. Yes, he has some pretty amazing abilities, but it's much more gritty crime drama than superhero show which is the tone I expect most of the Marvel Netflix shows to take.

Where that may prove challenging is when you have Iron Fist running around NYC in bright green tights.

Yeah... gotta say I'm most interested in Iron Fist and that's the last one we'll be getting. Very interesting, that one. Not sure how it will fit in, but I'm sure it will be fine.

I'm sure they'll be good but I'm having a tough time getting excited for these next three Marvel/Netflix shows, especially Jessica Jones... At least David Tennant is in it as the villain.

Yup, I have confidence it'll be done well...I'm just really curious to see how it's done

Didn't see that he had been cast. The fact that he is playing Zebediah Killgrave suggests we won't be getting PI Jessica Jones. The Killgrave stuff is much darker.

Captain Marvel has writers.

One has previous MCU ties via Guardians.

Interesting. The SHIELD spinoff is supposed to be about Bobbi (Mockingbird) and Hunter. I like both of the characters A LOT on SHIELD and would be really sad to not see them on it anymore. Also not sure how either could carry a show of their own that is separate from SHIELD. This to me is probably the first major misstep that Marvel has allowed in their universe.

Agreed, it really seems like a big missed opportunity to delve further into the Inhumans. However, it seems that given Skye's connection to Coulson and the rest of the team, I get the feeling that story line will stick with AoS. I assume they are pulling in Hunter to substitute for Hawkeye, but I'm not seeing the vision for their story separate from the main group at this point. They did say when the spinoff was rumored initially that the story will become clear in time. Guess we will have to wait and see by seasons end where they might go.

They are talking TWO spinoffs now, Bobbi/Hunter is simply one of those and not necessarily the one they were taking about originally.

Also I'm not sure that either spinoff will get a full season run, I think they'll be 8-13 episodes.

Inhumans as a TV show is a good thought but doesn't really line up with the way things are going. The big time heroes with crazy strong powers get the movies. Normal people and lower powered heroes get TV shows.

Plus, they seem to want to keep a level of mystery around the Inhumans for the time being. I'm guessing they don't want to delve too deeply into them since they have a scheduled movie. Otherwise there will be a ton of info out about them but a lot of people will only be learning about the Inhumans for the first time in the movie.

Agreed. I enjoy agents of shield, Agent Carter and Daredevil, but spinning off a new show from AoS feels like Marvel's starting to stretch its TV presence too thin.

I can't imagine a Bobbi/Hunter spin-off, but that is pretty much the way they run their comic business. There are 4-6 issue miniseries coming out all the time for random stories/characters. Doesn't seem like it would work here because of the costs associated though.

I only feel like its stretching thin if you just have more than one of these shows going on concurrently. DC has three shows going on all at the same time (Flash, Arrow, and Gotham) currently Marvel only has one. As long as they keep using the spin-offs as fill-ins, during the time Agents of SHIELD is off the air, I'm totally on board with 8-10 episode filler shows. That way you can have something Marvel on tv all year long.

Yeah, kind of the model they followed with Agent Carter. The other shows are basically miniseries that can fill in time between episodes on AoS.

Ahhh. I'd be on board with that.

I do want an agent Carter season 2 though.

I am fine with mid-season filler. Don't want it running concurrently. Keep an 8 episode model for these ones.

Sorry, misread. One spinoff, one more show written by John Ridley. Two shows, only one official spinoff.

Saw this on Twitter about spiderman and thought it was pretty interesting news.

Venom and Carnage are the two best spiderman villains in my opinion.
