I was actually waiting for that exact thing to happen, and it never did and I was actually a little disappointed, like they needed to make sure he was dead dead

Now that's funny especially considering Lebouf and Hartnett are basically no names now. How the tables turn.

Lebouf
Oh, he remains a known name, just not for the reason he would want. (Related to his disgust of the president)

Sebastian Stan has a loooooong Marvel contract, so I'd venture a guess he eventually is Captain America.

The only issue I can kind of see with that is that he and Evans are about the same age. But I guess he's already got bionic parts, so they could maybe go the Tony Stark route where they introduce more technological edges to make you forget about the guy getting older.

That almost makes me mad. Like it's unfair that someone can think of that and somehow measure it out.

So, wife and I FINALLY saw Endgame. We got to talking. We know this is the end of the OG Avengers, but we will surely see more avengers films? Who will be in the new class?

Captain Marvel?
Falcon as new Cap?
BP?
Dr. Strange?
Spidey?

And when will we see another avengers film. 2022ish?

The Disney head (I think) said on an investor call that they may give the Avengers franchise a little break to focus on some other titles. What that means is anyone's guess but I could see the next "phase" not having an Avengers, initially, or having one way down the line.

We can all do Phase 4 predictions before D23 but if I had to guess, it'd be Doctor Strange 2, Captain Marvel 2, Black Panther 2, etc - and maybe end with Fantastic Four. Maybe they do an Annihilation movie w/ Guardians, Fantastic Four and Captain Marvel. Not sure.

And almost definitely no X-Men until after all that, per Kevin Feige comments.

Maybe the next time we see an Avengers film is Avengers vs X-Men!

I would venture a guess that the next time we see some form of the new "Avengers", it will be in a support role of another title rather than in a standalone film. Almost like testing the waters to see the response to them. Either way, I think it will still be a while.

So is Endgame #1 now?

endgame is now 100 million behind avatar. will it be able to catch it now that summer movie season has kicked in?

Domestic or worldwide?

Well either way, answer is no. Force Awakens is #1 domestic. (Won't come close to it.)

Avatar still #1 worldwide. Maybe about a 15% chance to beat it at this point.

It can still beat Avatar, but it will have to stay in theaters through the summer. Domestic is a lost cause.

I see numbers on boxofficemojo that bear out your graph above.

It appears it is the overseas take for Avatar accounting for that movie's position as #1? I don't get the fascination for that movie. Saw it once in the theater. It was a gorgeous movie to look at, and it did have what I'd call a classic science fiction story setup, but its political implications were far too heavy-handed; I'd rather watch Dances With Wolves even with its own politics of white-man-bad, which at least were somewhat grounded in reality.

I've seen Endgame 4 times, and when it comes to blu ray, I will likely watch it at least a dozen times in the first couple of weeks I have it. I may end up watching Avatar a second time (10 years later) only because we're going to Walt Disney World Thanksgiving week, and this will be my first time in Animal Kingdom since they opened the Pandora section of that park.

How was Avatar that big? Was it just the special effects? I don't remember anyone really talking about the story the or the characters the way people talk about the Avengers. No doubt I've paid more attention to Marvel news, so I'm a bit biased, I just don't remember that much discussion about Avatar other than it being another Jim Cameron visual spectacle.

Avatar was a monster world wide, especially in Europe and Japan. You can't look at box office numbers through a conservative America lens when looking at world wide numbers. And keep in mind, most Europeans and Japanese haven't seen Dances with Wolves.

Yeah, that graph above makes it clear our allies and our enemies in WWII really loved Avatar.

Remember, Avatar was in 1,000+ theaters for 98 days. It didnt hit the 700 mil mark domestic until Day 72. It really didnt have much competition that year and it stayed in theaters for quite awhile.

Endgame probably won't get that kind of time in theaters since more and more "big blockbusters" come out now more frequently.

for me personally, that was the only reason i saw it in the theater. i kept hearing how the movie itself wasn't very good, but that it was visually stunning and a "must see" on the big screen.

More than anything, I remember there being an obsession with the experience of visiting another world. More than the story/directing/effects/acting/etc., people simply became obsessed with the feeling that they were going on an utterly immersive adventure to a fantastical alien planet. There were people who became legit depressed that they couldn't actually visit Pandora. I think there was even an online support group or something. Say what you will about the movie itself, but Cameron created an entire eco-system that was just so visceral that the movie felt like more of a ride than anything else. We've never seen an alien planet more fully fleshed out and I think that's what kept people coming back again and again and again. They just wanted to keep visiting Pandora.

It was a monster domestically, too. Remember, Avatar sold a LOT more tickets here than Endgame did.

Pretty much this. I think I saw it 4 times in theaters, and kept introducing it to more people. The last time I saw it was probably a month or more into its run, and the theater was still packed.

Eh, my logic for why the clearly inferior Avatar is beating Endgame:

European countries - pansy-ass socialists are simply scared of seeing some good old fashioned ass-kicking.
Russia - those commies would never go see a movie where one of the heroes that saves the entire universe is Captain F'N America.
Australia - boycotting because their one contribution to saving the universe got fat and lazy.

In the end, Endgame never stood a chance. That's alright, we all know it was good old-fashioned American ingenuity (Ironman) and willpower (Cap) that saved the day.

Maybe Endgame will get a late bump by Far From Home. Captain Marvel jumped back into the top-5, I think, when Endgame came out.

Isn't really MCU, but looks like we're finally getting the Avengers game, which sounds in every way like the spiritual successor to Ultimate Alliance.
