A couple of interesting notes from the Expanded Universe files of my nerd brain, considering they've said they'll take bits and pieces of the best of the EU to apply to the new films.
1) After marrying Han, Leia doesn't want to have children, fearful that her father's bloodline will produce another Vader. She refuses until she and Han are on Tatooine on some convoluted mission and she meets a couple of people who knew Anakin growing up, and realizes he wasn't born evil, he just became that via circumstances and choices.
2) Driver's character being a Solo-Organa offspring torn between light and dark is straight outta the EU with Jacen Solo, who has a twin sister. He gets captured and somewhat brainwashed during a full-scale war against enemies from outside of the galaxy, but ultimately wins the final duel against their leader, using the Force in some remarkable ways. After that, he goes "grey" - not exactly a Jedi, but wanting to know all about the various aspects of the Force, ultimately traveling the galaxy to see who uses it besides the Jedi and for what purposes. When he returns, he is nudged into deciding to become a SIth because the galaxy needs him to rule. Of course this all goes awry, he eventually kills Luke's wife, and is killed in turn by his own sister.
Just food for thought
