Dropping the episode numbers is a clown move.
This quote from the other thread brings up a great point. If that picture from twitter is the title card, why deviate from tradition in showing the episode number?

If you read that Luke link I posted yesterday, the title actually kind of makes sense.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Makes perfect sense if Luke is either doing things that haven't been done before, or simply rediscovering things that were long forgotten (perhaps for good reason).

Funny thing, I hadn't even realized we didn't have a title yet, nor had I even begun to speculate what it could be. Poor "The Phantom Menace"... still the worst titled and arguably the worst Star Wars movie.

Phantom Menace is a way better title than attack of the clones.

I posted a more general response in the other thread... but yeah, I think the title is talking about how the force was sorta dormant once the Jedi Order was all but wiped out. The Force Awakens is referring to Luke, along with his new friends, rediscovering some really awesome powers.

This recent article hints very closely to that (funny how that info and this new title come out around the same time). I think we will see some awesome displays of the force and that will no doubt go back to the age old problem of properly wielding this power so that it doesn't become a tool of the dark side. The description of Luke sorta being a "wizard" makes sense... I think it will be a struggle for him and why he will be reluctant to come out of seclusion and why he may not have trained anybody. But circumstances will force his hand and he won't be able to sit on the sidelines anymore. How dirty will he have to get his hands?

Updated the main URL to reflect the new title (replaced "Episode VII" with "The Force Awakens")...

Also, I added another rumor/blurb to the end of Adam Driver's character's profile. No idea if true, but interesting nonetheless.

A lot of speculation on the ending of the movie, kind of putting it all in perspective with a new theory/report that may clear up some of the confusion... as long as you can decipher Da7e's usual, scatter-brained writing...

If anything, it really is sounding more and more like Adam Driver is playing Han & Leia's son, and then gradually becomes a villain by the end of the movie, which I'm all for.

I saw a pic of driver on your site and immediately thought he looked like a longer faced son of Harrison Ford.

Based on these latest bits of info, here's the basic gist of what I'm gathering...

- Han & Leia are estranged/divorced.

- Leia is some kind of political higher-up for the Rebels/Republic.

- Driver is their son, and is a Rebel/Republic pilot, but is caught between the light and the dark side of the Force.

- Diasy Ridley's character is their daughter, but either rejected the political limelight, or was purposefully shielded from it by her parents, and lives on the desert planet that may or may not be Tatooine. Andy Serkis may be playing a motion-capture/robotic body guard/companion to her of some sort.

- When Boyega's character - a defected stormtrooper - crash lands on that same planet, Ridley's character rescues him, and they then seek out Han for whatever reason, who might be living on the planet as well.

- While Boyega's character is stormtrooper who goes good, Driver's character is a Rebel/Republic pilot who eventually goes bad (and becomes the main villain of Episodes VIII and IX).

Will add all this - along with new speculation about Lupita Nyong'o's character - to the primer later today.

A couple of interesting notes from the Expanded Universe files of my nerd brain, considering they've said they'll take bits and pieces of the best of the EU to apply to the new films.

1) After marrying Han, Leia doesn't want to have children, fearful that her father's bloodline will produce another Vader. She refuses until she and Han are on Tatooine on some convoluted mission and she meets a couple of people who knew Anakin growing up, and realizes he wasn't born evil, he just became that via circumstances and choices.

2) Driver's character being a Solo-Organa offspring torn between light and dark is straight outta the EU with Jacen Solo, who has a twin sister. He gets captured and somewhat brainwashed during a full-scale war against enemies from outside of the galaxy, but ultimately wins the final duel against their leader, using the Force in some remarkable ways. After that, he goes "grey" - not exactly a Jedi, but wanting to know all about the various aspects of the Force, ultimately traveling the galaxy to see who uses it besides the Jedi and for what purposes. When he returns, he is nudged into deciding to become a SIth because the galaxy needs him to rule. Of course this all goes awry, he eventually kills Luke's wife, and is killed in turn by his own sister.

Just food for thought

This is starting to sound like a script that I and most movie goers can get behind. Having "the offspring" carry the torch going forward makes sense... It also makes sense for them to be Solos/Leias children (force sensitive and their Dad is awesome). And Luke plays the role of the oldest and baddest mofo Jedi in the galaxy and he is caught up in the middle once again.

We can still get the conflict that brings all the characters into the fold once again without the shock factor of turning Luke into a cyborg. I very much like this!

Finally updated the primer with the basic info from my earlier post above, along with further speculation on Lupita Nyongo's character (moving her from "Villain" to "Question Mark"). Also increased the width of the page, which enlarged a lot of the images...

Can't wait to inject screen grabs/speculation from the trailer next week.

Nice job! Only thing I noticed was you didn't have drivers name listed on his bio.

And what is the "MacGuffin" role? I'm not familiar with that reference.

Thanks!

And nice catch. Just added Driver's name/IMDb link. I also added a link to the definition of a MacGuffin...

Early thoughts based on the Trailer:

1. Oscar Isaac is an X-Wing Pilot:
So the rumors about how he owns the Falcon may be false. But one of those leaked set shots showed a model Falcon parked next to hangers full of X-Wings, so maybe he flies both? I sorta doubt that, but it's possible. Me personally, I wouldn't mind him being a main secondary type character and have him lead an elite squadron of X-Wings throughout the series. Most Star Wars fans loved the Wedge Antilles character and I'm all for this in the new films. They could also totally do a complete "Rogue Squadron" spinoff with him as the lead. Can't wait!

2. Luke is NOT the Cyborg Sith: The guy in that trailer moved too freely and was too thin/lanky to be Luke. Based on limited info and body type, I think it's highly likely the Driver rumors are true. I also think it's highly likely there is indeed a Sith Master at work and this new guy is the Vader type Apprentice. This cool new lightsaber and talk about this black character being heavily cyborg'd out leads me to believe there very much is a master who transforms his new apprentice. Very likely Driver is indeed normal in the movie (and Solo's son), but gets messed up and has to be partially rebuilt and turned evil.

3. Daisy Ridley: Looks like rumors were pretty much dead on about her... lives on a desert planet, looks to be a loner / scavenger type. Would also win the "cutest girl in school" award anywhere. Boys/Men are going to fall in love with a Star Wars lead once again... Carrie Fischer will secretly hate her and wonder where time did her wrong!

4. John Boyega: Is indeed a Storm Trooper, is almost certain to turn good and meet up with Ridley's character on this desert planet. Looks like those rumors are dead on as well. Based on the shots we see of Storm Troopers in the drop ship, I think it's very likely Boyega was part of this strike group during some sort of night mission. Something goes wrong (maybe a drop ship gets shot down) and he wakes up the next day alone and in the middle of nowhere. Looks to me like his character does not defect, but rather ends up left behind (MIA) and he's pretty much toast in the desert until Ridley finds him. He then gets caught up in the middle of the new plot and makes up his own mind which side he chooses to take. I see his character very much like Han Solo in A New Hope... the audience and his own character will question his motives, but in the end it's the good in him that will choose sides.

5. New Jedi's: No indication who this will be, but some of the rumors have been true so far so Boyega and Ridley appear to be good bets. They will meet up with Luke, conversations about "The Force brought you two together" yada yada. We then get to see them work together to become awesome... to rise up and fail in different ways... and Luke gets to be the wise old mentor who eventually has to step up himself and start kicking arse once again!

6. Abrams: Can't argue with that brief look. There were visuals that looked in place with Episodes 1-3 (the background stuff in the droid shot looked like pod racers), but a heavy lean towards the look from the original trilogy. The cockpit view with Isaac and X-wing shot was dead on perfect! And then the shot of the Falcon doing crazy loops was definitely jarring... a very modernized action scene, but it was awesome. Just as long as they don't go overboard with crazy camera angles, shaky cam, or any other annoying modern techniques, it will be fine. But at first glance, it was very much Star Wars!

7. Opening Scene to the Movie: I'm thinking this Storm Trooper raid could very well be the opening scene. Opens in space with a Star Destroyer (immediately establishing with the audience that the Empire didn't role over and die after ROTJ)... it launches drop ships which travel down to a desert planet for a raid. Boyega gets left behind during this, meets up with Ridley, the Falcon shows up at some point (the Falcon shot was obviously the same desert planet) and thus the pieces are set!

Great analysis. Will try and add/amend all this to the primer over the weekend if I have time. If not, it may not be until next week sometime.

Hopefully the traditional opening text crawl will be part of the movie to further explain to the audience why remnants of the Empire still exist.

Any thoughts on the Imperial probe droid communicae played over the Boyega scene?

That breakdown makes a good point... that sith lightsaber does not have defined edges which could mean it was put together with some lacking skills. It also has a very distinct crackle instead of a hum.

Coolest detail? Daisy Ridley's character's goggles are made from salvages Stormtrooper lenses.
