Personally, I think Lucasfilm should just scrap the rest of his episodes, give him a studio budget and get this movie rolling!

It was better than any of the official stuff Disney has done except maybe TFA.

TLJ was always going to be a significant dropoff. The real question is can Ep IX improve on TLJ? I think it can, but it really depends on how much damage TLJ did with general audiences.
And I think the name brand that is JJ Abrams is no small thing.
When you are one of (or THE) biggest box office successes of all time, you are pretty much guaranteed to go down from there.Quote:

Ep IX will do TLJ/RO type numbers, certainly. And with a glimpse of Force Ghost Luke looking glorious and an epic space battle led by Chewie in the Falcon and Rey in a mask bathed in the glow of a purple lightsaber in a trailer will have all the supposed boycotters going to see the movie, even if they lie about it online.

Just speaking in generics on this front (unlike the title Duel of the Fates which WILL be the title). When the trailer shows awesome, evocative things, the inevitable supposed boycott won't hold water and it will make lots of money, just like TLJ and RO.

I *****ed about TLJ quite a bit but I will definitely go see IX to finish this thing out. I also think Abrams knows he has to pull this thing out of the ditch so I'm very curious to see if can do it.
Dammit now I'm thinking about something I said just as a throwaway comment. Rey in a mask would be interesting and could be awesome.
What if Rey wears a mask as part of her Ep IX costume update? It would be a more sophisticated variation on this:
Reasons the mask could be viable and/or cool:
1. Seems like a very JJ thing to do
2. Flips the script of the end of TFA and TLJ of Kylo abandoning his mask
3. Rey in a mask in a trailer would cause lots of buzz
4. There are a lot of production advantages to the lead wearing a mask in terms of using a stunt double
5. Masks are pretty marketable
6. The first time we see Rey she is in a mask, and a possible return to Jakku would warrant wearing one
7. Knights of Ren will certainly make an appearance and they seem to all wear masks, so there's a parallel there
Not saying it would be all the time or anything, but just a part of whatever her combat costume is for a big battle.

Okay, the below is a deep dive into Star Wars fandom that I think is fascinating but is not for most. Just FYI. I just thought it was too illuminating not to talk about.
The short version is that this anti-Disney guy has concocted this whole story about how he got a behind the scenes look at the Lucasfilm takeover and the machinations of Pablo Hidalgo. But it's all made up. These people have never met and these conversations never happened. He can't answer any questions about any details of this eventbor his supposed friendship with Arnie C. Yet he's out there feeding this to the fridge Star Wars crazies to get clicks. It's bonkers. He should maybe run for office.
