They're posted above on page 643.

I enjoyed the movie, but I had my problems with it. But, the more I process, the more I'm "ok" with the things I didn't love.

I need to rewatch a few more times to really digest this one. But there's a lot to love in this movie, and one thing is for sure. Nobody can criticize this movie for being a rehash or a remake.

Ok nerds.... I need to get myself up to speed on the saga (and also my wife, who I don't think has seen more than 1 or 2 movies, but she wants to go watch VIII). What order should we watch all of the previous films to get the best affect?

Note: I have seen IV, V, and VI a few times each and used to own the VHS trilogy. I have also seen I and Rogue One.

Go!
IV,V,I,II,III,VI,VII

If you want to throw RO put it after III
Thanks man.

the old AT ATs vs the new ones - what do yall think? The movement in the new ones was much more animal-like, but they did look badass.

$45M on Thursday, on track for $200M+ opening weekend, as expected.

(Second biggest opening night of all behind TFA's $57M.)

Will be very interesting to see what the week 2 drop off looks like. If this thing tanks similar to a typical blockbuster, what does that mean for the franchise? The end of taking risks? And Johnson's trilogy?

You thought they took risks? I thought exactlyl the opposite.

Same. People cheered at times, no doubt, but I was surprised by just how bored I and everyone around me seemed to be for the most part. I'm finding this divergence far more fascinating that the movie itself.
What does this say about the critics?
Brian Earl Spilner

I think critics are applauding the fact that the movie took risks and went in a different direction. And I don't think anybody can reasonably disagree. Though I'm curious to hear VanZandt's thoughts on that.

Um, yeah. I won't say much on this thread, but I think everything they did with the the Force was unlike anything we've ever seen in a SW movie. You wanted something new? That was new. Some of it worked, some of it didn't.

The casino scene made me think of a James Bond movie. Not the animals running through it, but in general, it was too much like a Bond scene. Weird comparison I'm sure, but I didn't care for it.

FYI you should spoiler tag that post or move it to one of the jedi threads. I think this one is spoiler free til jan 1.

Is there a limit to how long a spoiler tag can be or is there punctuation that jacks it up? I pasted in my safe list between the brackets etc, but it wouldnt work

Agree with most everything you said.

there are nitpicks and the Phasma part in particular was just bad bad bad but thank god it is over. and the casino/escape scene was borderline bad but mercifully quick and still looked amazing but felt like a Lucas prequel style over substance part.

But there is so much I loved that it is definitely overshadowing any nitpicks. Over time we will see how it plays out but I think it will grow even more on me whereas TFA waned a bit for me because the retread nature of so much of it.

The performances in this was so very good that it helps tremendously. Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver were so amazing really I have no problem knowing they have to carry the third film. Carrie and Mark did superb jobs in the swan song for both.

About your major criticism of Lukes ending - I disagree about that. We did actually see incredible force power from Luke it was just in the form of the projection. It was both unexpected and a great twist but I think that took incredible powers to do from so far away. I've seen other things saying no jedi has ever really pulled something like that off from across the galaxy. I get the desire to see him kick ass and that would have been great too of course. But as an old old man that would not have been that realistic I think like yoda flipping circles like a ninja in the the prequels. I liked that it completely caught me off guard - even though it was foreshadowed so much really.

Really love it right now. Ranking

ESB/ANH -always 1A and 1B to me nearly tied originality vs. darker

I'm not sure on subsequent viewings TLJ could pass RO. but I don't see it falling at all. I don't see myself watching TFA too much going forward. Too much retread.

Can't wait to see it again.

This thread is for spoiler-free thoughts (until Jan 1st), and all Star Wars discussion that is not directly related to the movie itself.

It's not the main Last Jedi thread but people are free to discuss it here without any spoilers, so people who haven't seen it may read it.

Definitely see the movie! And try to go into it with an open mind.

I thin 7.5-8 of 10 is my rating, but open to changing on subsequent viewings. There is some good and bad, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the theater.

I'll agree there. BernArnold's post was more of a TLJ-thread post.

This is two years old, but I just discovered it. It's a graphical article over the use of the force in the first two trilogies. Kinda cool.

My opinion: TLJ = 8.5 or 9/10

It was a very well filmed, acted, fun StarWars movie...

Will post thoughts.

So just got home from my second viewing, and as expected, ended up enjoying it even more the second time. Once the burden of expectations are gone (and in my case, anger each time a spoiler I read ended up coming true), I was able to appreciate the story a lot more.

My one major "gripe" about the story the first time around, I've almost done a complete 180 on.

Everything else that I loved the first time, I still loved.

The music cues were absolutely fantastic. Some great callbacks to previous themes that I was able to pick out a lot better the second time.

There are still some parts where the story slows down quite a bit, but what movie doesn't? Even Empire does.

But, overall, I have to say I think this is a great Star Wars movie.

I said I would be ready to rank it after viewing #2, but I'm still not quite ready. But again, I do believe it's in the top half of the saga. (And to be fair, I think ROTS is a fantastic movie, unlike many on this board. So it's tougher to just automatically rank it ahead of the whole PT quite yet.)

I definitely encourage a second watch for this one.

Also, have to add that I had a much better crowd this time around, which is surprising.

Was in a packed theater, and there was a lot of cheers and applause in all the right places, even more so than on opening night.
