I'm going out on a limb and saying that Solo will be better than both TFA and Rogue One. I just have a feeling about this movie, from everything I've heard, to everyone involved. I'm betting this will be the most fun SW movie by a mile, and I think that'll go a long way toward its success.

I have no hype for the Solo film, and I'm not even looking forward to it. That probably means it is guaranteed to be awesome.
It is indeed the great debate that will never go away. All that I can say is that as someone with little kids in the house, TFA is a very re-watchable film. I find it pulls my attention when the kids have it on the TV. I can't tell you how many times my son has thrown that movie on the TV when given the option to watch a movie. I'd guess Rogue One has been watched 3 times since we bought it, and I probably drove two of those viewings. The only other Star Wars film that I ever see my son randomly watch is Empire.
The Force Awakens is a better movie, Rogue One is a better Star Wars movie.
the characters alone in TFA will give it a nod. And the fact that JJ had a near impossible task to undo the prequels. Now it feels right and set the entire SW universe back on track.

I think Solo will do incredibly well.
The characters in Rogue One were never meant to have staying power, we knew going in we'd never see them again. But having said that, I think they did a pretty good job of making us care about them in 2 hours.
On the other hand, TFA obviously had to set up major characters that will be a big part of the Star Wars canon going forward. And it did an absolutely stellar job of doing so. Rey and Kylo have both entered the pop culture in a huge way, just as they were meant to do.

I like Plinkett and find his takes hilarious, but he has zero respect for fan service films, and that's what a lot of Rogue One was. I think one of his critiques of the film was that there was no context clues about Vader or the force. I don't really know what he expects them to do.

I randomly filled a spot in his FF league a couple of years ago. I exchanged a few emails with him this past August after I got an invite from the now defunct league. I mentioned that he disappeared from TA and hoped that all was well. He said that he was fine and had simply decided to give up TA to save time.
