12 O'clock High may be my favorite WW2 movie. Considering when it was made, it is much closer to a modern war movie than the normal 50s or 60s war film. Much of the footage is of actual arial combat. TBH I can't watch the movie any more simply because I know I'm watching an actual B17 full of American airmen burning to death.

I have absolutely no qualms in proclaiming it one of the greatest comedy bits of the century so far. It never, ever gets old, and I almost know it by heart at this point.

I haven't seen a single one of these, but interesting nonetheless...

Quote:

"Twelve O'Clock High was a big touchstone, for the feel and look of the aerial combat as well as the dynamic between the pilots. Three Outlaw Samurai for the feel of the sword-fighting, and the general sense of pulpy fun. And To Catch A Thief was a great film to rewatch, for the romantic scale and grandeur."

The crawl will be all from Luke's perspective because we know nothing about what he has done since being betrayed by Ben.

STAR WARS
EPISODE VIII
The Last Jedi

The ancient Jedi Order has only one survivor. Intent to rekindle the light of the Jedi across the galaxy, LUKE SKYWALKER established an academy to train a new generation in the ways of the FORCE.

Seduced by the Dark Side, Luke's nephew and star pupil, BEN SOLO, destroyed his fellow students and the academy. Taking the new name of KYLO REN, he pledged his allegiance to the evil First Order and the villainous Supreme Leader Snoke.

Luke retreated from the galaxy to find the lost original Jedi temple on Ahch-To. Living there in seclusion for years, he now finds himself face to face with his past and an uncertain destiny...

So...

Rogue One - in theaters
The Last Jedi - in post-production
Han Solo - filming
Episode IX - in pre-production

Four new Star Wars movies. How crazy would that have sounded just 4 years ago?

I rewatched a good chunk of Hail, Caesar! last night on HBO, and seeing it again, now knowing Alden Ehrenreich is playing Han, I really do think he's going knock it out of the park.

Agreed. It was a great performance.

I could definitely see him pulling of the swagger, attitude, etc. His demeanor in that movie was amazing - smooth and charming while playing a clueless cowboy actor in elite hollywood. very fish out of water and yet he remained charismatic throughout. And pulling off the bad acting scenes - thats tough to do. You have to be a very good actor to act like a very bad actor authentically.

Let's just hope that Lucasfilm/Disney doesn't peak with Rogue One (Cotton Bowl), go mediocre on Last Jedi (2013 season), bumble around with Han Solo and Ep 9 (Johnny in Cleveland), then scrap the franchise all together.

Sneak peak to my review of TLJ:

Bull**** like this is why I can't wait for Disney to stop creating Star Wars films. Whenever that may be....
