Except he wasn't an extra... He is one of the new main characters. The three people they showed are the new leads for this trilogy with the old cast filling in the gaps.
Just realized I misread that tweet. I though they meant the 3 x-wing pilots in that one shot. Didn't realize they meant the 3 leads throughout the entire trailer. Not that I care what race they are in any way.

I'm not sure I like a cross hilt on a light saber. It seems like it would limit your motion since those little light hilts could hurt you.
