I wonder how many more seasons they are going to have of the show? Maybe end around 1933 or shortly thereafter when prohibition ended?

They haven't had a bad season yet IMO so it's not like they have jumped the shark and only have enough material for only 1 or 2 more seasons max. Hopefully they'll have at least 3 more seasons but I would rather they cut it short than start pumping out bad seasons which would bring down the whole show.

Ratings are down this year. I think the storyline is being set up for the show to end next season. Hope I am wrong.

If their ratings are down this year, it's because of last season (in my opinion). I'm guessing a lot of folks didn't come back after how bad last season just drug on, and on, and on, with the boring story lines in the middle of the season.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned the Godfather connection here.

When Eli suggested a meeting with the bosses, that's Tessio!!! (Abe Vigoda). Eli is the rat/skunk.

When Nucky agrees to have the meeting, that's Michael Corleone accepting the meeting. Now, we just have to see if it is Nucky's plan to have them assasintated at the meeting.

Nice call. If that comes to fruition, I say well done with that connection!!!

I wonder if the ratings being down have anything to do with going head to head with BB and WD

I think it's going to be tough to top Gyp Rosetti; every time he was on screen the tension was palpable. Gyp could literally kill anyone at any moment. Dr. Narcisse just seems so weak in comparison. I'm honestly amazed he has lived this long.

Have they ever explained why the Doctor's chest is so mutilated? With his hatred of white folks, I assume there's a connection. (Not that there aren't other valid reasons for a black man in the 1920's to not really care for whites)

I think Daughter's mother did that to Dr. Narcisse when he was attacking her.

Yes, the daughter's mother did that to him when he was having sex/killing her. The daughter watched it all from a closet her mom put her in when she was turning tricks. Dr Narcise then took her under his wing and brain washed her.
Stive

Didn't she do it with lye or acid or something? Seems like Daughter said something about her keeping it there to protect herself.

Thanks guys. I recall everything else you said, but somehow missed the part where she said her mother injured her attacker while fighting back.

That is one messed up story.

I thought Daughter said she did it with a busted whiskey bottle.

The last scene of the previous episode (where Willy tells Eli, "Isn't this what we do?"), then the camera pans away, is Godfather-esque to me as well.

Wow! Great call, if this does happen then major props to you!

I think Nucky knows Eli is up to something and I could definitely see Nucky killing Eli since this would be the 2nd time he has double crossed him.

By the end of the episode, I think Nucky definitely knows Eli is the rat. He strongly suspects that Knox is the insurance salesman. And I think when Nucky was reciting the love note to Eli, it was to see if he was made because of "teasing" or if it was the mention of the salesman that put him on edge. Eli didn't respond the same way he did at the dinner table. This should tell him that Eli wasn't mad at the teasing.

Big Russ, I interpreted that final Nucky/Eli scene the same way.

Tessio was acting on behalf of one of the mob bosses who planned to kill Michael Corleone. Eli is being blackmailed by the FBI to betray Nucky and all the other bosses.

At this point in the story, Nucky has no interest in killing the other bosses, especially Johnny Torio. His beef is with Eli for betraying him and the Doctor.

I dunno...I think he may have the same disdain for the heroin as Don Corleone. And he wants the purveyors of that wiped out.

I finally watched it last night and was definitely thinking Godfather for all the reasons mentioned above, including the Tessio parallel. The internal dilemma for Nucky is huge. Does he pull a Michael and kill his brother (or have him killed), pull a fast one and kill Knox, or go some other route entirely. It's clear that Eli's son knows something is up and I can definitely see a scenario where he is forced to choose between his father (with whom he has a strained relationship) or his uncle (who he respects and admires).

Either way, I think this is setting up to be a fantastic finale. Hope it delivers.

If the estate goes to Tommy, then that would basically put it in the hands of Richard and his new wife, right? Would that lead to Richard wielding new power?

From the train station on, I knew this episode was not going to end well for Richard. The tragic character never ends up living up happily ever after...

I had a feeling things wouldnt go well when he told Tommy he loved him

That being said he saved Tommy and got justice for Jimmy

LHIOB,

Nucky was the one that took Jimmy out, so how do you mean "got justice for Jimmy"?

Or am I missing something here?

The drama in that ep kept building and building and building.

I too got nervous when Richard said bye at the train station. And the look on Eli's face when Van Alden drove up was hilarious!

Nobody will be on top when the series has ended. It's a modern gangster epic in the tradition of The Godfather, Goodfellas, Casino and The Sopranos.

So it was kinda like The Godfater -- Godfather III and Mary dead and Michael alone at the end. Sort of.

Epic ending consistent with history as far as a fictional character (Thompson) can be with historical characters like Torio, Capone, Rothstein, etc.
