I'm officially creeped out by General Zod. I'm kneeling already.

The mask is perfect. From what little can be seen, it's very reminiscent of the ones the Engineers wore in Alien/Prometheus. At the risk of going full-nerd, it's known that Zod speaks Kryptonian to Superman a few times in the movie - which may not be more than a line or two - but there's already speculation that the mask serves as a translator of sorts when he's speaking to everyone else on Earth. Could be a cool touch, but who knows...

Also, looks like what's airing during the MTV Movie Awards tonight is a 30-second preview of the three-minute trailer...

So MTV is airing a trailer for the trailer. Cool !!!

Maybe. I haven't watched a single thing on that channel in years, and I'm definitely not watching the movie awards, but there's a rumor that a 30-second preview spot will air at some point. Though, the show's apparently almost over and nothing yet. Three-minute trailer for sure on Tuesday, though...

Alright, footage just aired during the show and it was the Zod viral stuff, cut as an ad for the movie. Same exact thing I linked to earlier, just with proper studio end tags. So yeah, three-minute trailer Tuesday around 5 PM PST...

Is anyone thinking that the scene of Superman in handcuffs is in compliance to Zod's demands?

I'm going to be let down if Zod doesn't mention anything about "Planet Houston."

I'm going to be let down if Zod doesn't say 3 specific words. He better say it.

Gotta be. From all the set photos way back when, and a couple shots in the trailer, there's some kind of fight between Superman and Zod/Foara in Smallville, at which point Superman likely gives himself up to the military (shots of the boots below). I guess he's then transported to some military facility, and that shot of Superman / Lois / the military all out on that desert runway could be where he's being given up to Zod in some form or fashion...

Also, more Zod (last pic is a Halloween costume promo shot / gives a better idea of the mask)...

TCTTS, any word on whether this is a completely self-contained movie, or should we expect a lot of questions/plot to be left open for a sequel? Sorry if this has been covered before.

It's self-contained in the same way that Batman Begins or The Amazing Spider-Man are self-contained. It's obviously meant to launch a franchise, and from what I understand, there are a couple tiny threads/mentions in this first installment that may or may not allude to what's to come (namely, apparent nods to Lex Luthor, and possibly having an idea who the other villain(s) may be for the next movie). But it's not like The Lord of the Rings, where it's a planned trilogy from the start. I'm sure they have a pretty good idea where they want to go in a sequel, should this one be successful, but there's no script yet or anything like that. In other words, I'm sure Superman will defeat Zod in the end, much like Batman defeated Ra's al Ghul in Begins. And where Batman still hadn't yet faced off against the Joker, which was hinted at in that very last scene, Superman won't have faced Luthor yet, which will likely be hinted at in some way or another in MOS. It'll be a "completed" character arc for Superman, and he'll get his moment in the sun (no pun intended) at the end, but like any first installment of a comic book movie, there will be slight hints and set-up for what's to come.

No way the movie isn't successful. WB seems to be doing everything right, especially the marketing. This thing does $250+, imo.

Awesome, thanks for the insight. The type of arc you're describing, like Batman Begins, is exactly what I'm hoping for. I love everything I've seen of it so far, and have complete faith in those involved, I just don't want there to be so much set-up of his character that the action feels rushed or pushed off to the next movie (that I'm sure the studio is already planning to some degree). Never thought I would be saying this, but this Superman movie is the summer movie I am most anticipating at this point. Even more so than Iron Man 3 or Star Trek.
Aggies76
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I was hoping that MOS would be closer to 3 hours long just so that it wouldn't feel rushed. Especially since this is his origin story and a full Zod conflict on top of that. Superman just has the best origin story of any superhero and I hope they don't rush through that too quickly.

2:20 tops. almost guaranteed.
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I've heard differently (from someone who's seen it). Like around 2 and a half hours, maybe even 2:40. There's apparently a healthy amount of Krypton stuff at the beginning, then the childhood/teenage Clark stuff, followed by his soul searching in Alaska or where ever (as Lois attempts to track him down), then, of course, all the presumed second-half Smallville/Metropolis/Zod fighting, amongst everything else. They're definitely squeezing a lot of story into this one, but I don't think it'll be much different from Batman Begins in that we didn't actually see Batman until an hour in. My guess is that we finally see Superman introduced (the walking in the snow stuff from the trailer) around the 1:15 mark, then have another 1:15-1:25 of actual Superman story.

And just FYI, so there's no confusion, Clark likely doesn't start working at The Daily Planet 'til the end of the movie. There's no actual Clark-at-The-Daily-Planet stuff during the bulk of the movie, taking up precious time. When we visit/see The Daily Planet, the focus will mainly be on Lois / Perry White. In fact...

*** SLIGHT SPOILERS ***

... the final shot of the movie - quickly shown in the original Comic-Con footage - is rumored to be the shot of Clark walking through the lobby of The Daily Planet, getting on the elevator, and putting on his signature glasses for the first time as the elevator doors shut and the screen goes to black. Lois apparently knows his identity by movie's end, so he's not having to hide his identity from her, just everyone else. But don't quote me on that. It's mostly speculation at this point, but does seem fairly plausible.

IMDB says 2:28, btw. Though, I doubt that's accurate, considering the source. Regardless, the person I talked to said it felt long, in the best way, and not rushed.

For comparison...

2:20 = Batman Begins
2:32 = The Dark Knight
2:45 = The Dark Knight Rises
2:34 = Superman Returns

Oh **** me this movie looks awesome. Yeah, that erased any doubts I had about the level of action in the movie. And it even boosted my expectations for the dramatic parts of the film higher than they already were after the previous trailer. I absolutely love the Russell Crowe /
Krypton stuff they included here.
