TCTTS, any word on whether this is a completely self-contained movie, or should we expect a lot of questions/plot to be left open for a sequel?
It's self-contained in the same way that
Batman Begins or
The Amazing Spider-Man are self-contained. It's obviously meant to launch a franchise, and from what I understand, there are a couple tiny threads/mentions in this first installment that may or may not allude to what's to come (namely, apparent nods to Lex Luthor, and possibly having an idea who the other villain(s) may be for the next movie). But it's not like
The Lord of the Rings, where it's a planned trilogy from the start. I'm sure they have a pretty good idea where they want to go in a sequel, should this one be successful, but there's no script yet or anything like that. In other words, I'm sure Superman will defeat Zod in the end, much like Batman defeated Ra's al Ghul in
Begins. And where Batman still hadn't yet faced off against the Joker, which was hinted at in that very last scene, Superman won't have faced Luthor yet, which will likely be hinted at in some way or another in
MOS. It'll be a "completed" character arc for Superman, and he'll get his moment in the sun (no pun intended) at the end, but like any first installment of a comic book movie, there will be slight hints and set-up for what's to come.
