killer bees are always awesome

saw bob schneider for the first time at Shadow Canyon during NXNG in 02 maybe?

although, this town never brings in my kind of music really (at least not since i've lived here), so my favorite shows were when all my friends would head out to Revolution for Wish Found Nation.

Wish found nation always brought a good crowd. we played zapatos with them a few times. It was nice playing with them and playing/mooching some of their fanbase

Playing/mooching is just supposed to be mooching.

Ninja Death Ship at Zapato's was pretty freaking awesome because they gave us a crapload of beer and I signed Vanessa's boobs.

Feeding 5k/Cowboy Mouth/Better Than Ezra at Harrys in 2002, I think.

Blue October at Wolfpen in 2003 was great too.

I remember seeing Two Spy and Sly Letter at Fitzwillys and had a good time.

Vallejo at Shadow Canyon was a fun night.

Pushmonkey at the Hall- dislocated a bouncers wrist....(pushmonkey anywhere was great- at Harry's I almost got into a fight with Slim's drummer, but then we did many shots)

Gary Stewart- especially loved when he was so stoned and started singing a song different from the band

REK-Charlie Robison at Wolfpen- don't recall much, but know it was a great show...

Gary Alan- always good

Ragweed with Stoney filling in on guitar at Harry's- best Cross Canadian show I been to

And props to the local boys in One Light Town, there shows were always fun wherever and whenever

i put this another thread recently.. worthy of mention here.
I was in a band, we were playing some place in downtown bryan.. next door was this place that had a couple pool tables in it.. well right before we were about to come on, we were out back chillin, i peeked my head over to the place next door.. and inside were about 10 midgets playing pool (which was funny all by itself).. anyway, the funny part, about 20 seconds later, I realized, our band name was on the marquee of the place we're playing, surely these midgets saw it when entering the pool place...

so why's that funny you ask? the band I was in was called Burning Midget.

Lol I remember when we booked you guys to play at the groove and the owner was kinda freaked out until he actually met you and found out you were all extremely polite.

And jumping monks isn't a band id heard of in ages. They warned us about how wild their fans got so I ha extra security on the promenade guarding the stage and watching the crowd for problems.

Not a damn thing happened.

Vallejo was another story. All but had a riot at the front of the stage and the band did everything they could to incite it.

Pushmonkey that year got a little rowdy and a guy got dropped on his head. The band was incredibly helpful with crowd control, getting the lights up, etc... dude wouldn't leave with the emt's until we had the band sign a poster for him.

hah oh yeh, when was that? I was an initial member, and left about 2002ish. Was only in it for the first year, about 10-12 shows worth.

I don't remember the groove.. that may have been later.

but yeh.. really nice guys. funny too, cause the guitar player was getting his phd, the singer was a school teacher, i was an engineer..

not your typical death metal band line-up.

anyone here ever go to a Ruthless McFrank show? they were a band of geology grad students that played on northgate a lot in the late 90s.

Lol. Yes. I played the bass for Ruthless. Chris McShane and Jason Francis were lead guitar/vocals. Occasionally we had a girl named Ruby sing for us and we had a few horns as well. We had more drummers than I can count. We weren't very good but we had a lot of fun. Well, I wasn't very good. Chris and Jason were phenomenal musicians. My favorite show was the Longhorn Tavern in Austin during SXSW.

REM played a couple of shows at Jolly Rollie. They were both sold out in about an hour. Great shows.

Went to the first one. Guy from dorm bought me tickets and I had no idea who they were when I bought them but knew of them by the time the show came around because they starting making it. This was 1987.

Great show.

Now, the second show I did not go to. But apparently Stipe was pretty political and I had a few ultra conservative friends who couldn't handle it.

Damn, I regret not hitting up that Toadies show in 2000 at Shadow Canyon. 2000 was a bad year for me.

I did get to catch them at the now defunct Northgate Music Festival in 2008. It was an outdoors show behind NG. Probably the best one I saw there and I wasn't a student.

Are they still in existence?

Chris LeDoux at Harry's. Spring of '97 or '98, I forget. Also that night were Pat Green, Cory Morrow & Highway 6 (Dub Milller's first band).

It's depressing hearing some of the bigger acts that came through back in the day. For whatever reason we could not get people to show up for concerts while I was at school. The biggest band we had on campus was Yellowcard @ Reed and it was maybe a third full if i'm being generous.

We had the Big State Festival which was put on by the people that do Austin City Limits with Tim McGraw, Willie Nelson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lyle Lovett, Trace Adkins, Dierks Bentley, Gary Allan, Robert Earl Keen, etc. but no one showed up so they never had another year of it.

Better than Ezra at Shadow Canyon for Northgate Music Festival was probably my favorite. Also say Burden Brothers and Flickerstick a couple times.

Saw Live and The Neville Brothers in Rudder Auditorium. Local band wise going to see The Solid Senders at Front Porch Cafe was always a blast.

Burden Brothers w/ Seven Mary Three at Time Square was fun, but this was after they enetered the eyeliner/glam days

The early days of Burden and thier Concept show was one of my faves. Hosting those guys for the day was a trip, definately cool to hang out with those guys that i grew up listening to. Taz annihalated some wings & Dos Equis/Miller Lite at Wings n' More before the show, the waitstaff didnt know what toi think of this huge ogre looking guy walking in the door.

I was at the Concept show.

Visually their eyeliner/glam phase was cringe worthy, but sonically Mercy is a flawless rock album. I still listen to it from front to back.

One Light Town was awesome. I sold their drummer and his wife a car when I worked at the Nissan dealership in town.

My two favorite shows were Matchbox 20 at Reed and a Cross Canadian Ragweed show that they did at Shadow Canyon that was only for Northgate employees and their guests.
