Last night was easily the second best of the season (behind Saracen's feature ep). While not as football related as I generally like them to be, Connie Britton just might have given her best performance of the series. The storyline it set up for her to close down the season is not something I saw coming, and it has the potential to be fascinating.
The way the abortion was handled by the show is almost perfect. So raw. It was done without at all being preachy, simply showing the characters for who they were. An almost impossible subject to handle was done with the skill that only FNL has.
After watching the Vince storyline, I went through IMDB to see if any of The Wire writers had come on board this season. They hadn't, but it's being handled similarly to the way The Wire handled a lot of their teens. I hadn't really gotten into Vince as a character until this week, but they finally turned the corner with him. The actor nailed all his scenes this week too.
FNL has always done comedic scenes pretty well, but the dinner scene with Julie/Ryan is one of my favorites. The awkwardness was spot-on. (Side note- Matt Barr who plays Ryan is from Allen, I've got friends who knew him in high school, good chance some people here knew who he was as well).
Very interested to see where both the Luke and Tami stories go next week. Only 3 episodes left. Sad it's the home stretch, but for the first time in 4 years, refreshing to know that this time, the season finale isn't the premature end.
