Waaaaay too far off for this, but DirecTV sent out a press release today with some good stuff in it:
quote:
Viewers will meet the East Dillon Lions when the fourth season of the critically acclaimed and Emmy-winning drama series Friday Night Lights premieres October 28 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on DIRECTV’s The 101 Network. Executive Producer Peter Berg (“Hancock”) will direct the season premiere, returning to the series as director for the first time since directing the show’s pilot in 2006. Four new additions to the cast, as well as the returning characters, will be central to the fourth and fifth seasons of the show.

Expanding on the hit feature film and best-selling book “Friday Night Lights,” the award-winning show centers on life in Dillon, Texas, where high school football brings the community together — and the drama of small town life threatens to tear it apart. As season four opens, a redistricting plan has left Dillon a town divided. Having been ousted from his role as head coach at Dillon High School, Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) finds himself faced with the daunting task of building a football team from scratch as well as motivating and disciplining the unmanageable East Dillon Lions players. Tensions follows Coach Taylor off the field and into the home as he and Tami (Connie Britton), who remains Principal of West Dillon High, find themselves increasingly at odds with one another and the adversarial roles the redistricting has forced upon them. As one of the main proponents of redistricting Dillon, Tami bears the brunt of criticism from very unhappy parents and students who have been zoned out of West Dillon and into less desirable East Dillon.

“This season opener is practically a pilot in itself. It puts Coach Taylor at the center of the action in a new school, with a new team, and many new challenges,” said executive producer Jason Katims. “In addition to the returning cast, we are introducing a host of new characters who will become integral to the fourth and fifth season of the show.”

An integral member of the newly formed East Dillon Lions is Vince (All My Children alum Michael B. Jordan), whose incredible speed positions him as the Lions best, and possibly only, hope despite his undisciplined skills and unpredictable temper. Vince quickly finds himself at odds with the team’s new pretty boy and rising star player Luke (Lipstick Jungle’s Matt Lauria). The running back held great promise playing with the Dillon Panthers, however, due to the redistricting lines he is now forced to play for the East Dillon Lions. Other newcomers include Jess (Jurnee Smollett, The Great Debaters), the daughter of a onetime NFL hopeful, who is an expert in the sport and will prove to be a crucial part of the new East Dillon team; and Becky, played by newcomer Madison Burge. Becky is a fifteen-year-old beauty queen who isn't afraid to use her looks to get what, and who, she wants and quickly establishes herself at the top of the East Dillon social hierarchy.

The upcoming fourth season will also focus on the fate of several returning characters including last season’s graduates Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch), Lyla Garrity (Minka Kelly), and Matt Saracen (Zach Gilford) as well as Julie Taylor (Aimee Teegarden) and Landry Clark (Jesse Plemons), whose lives have also been affected by the town’s redistricting. Additionally, Coach Taylor finds himself further troubled by a new rivalry with his former team, the Dillon Panthers, headed up by his replacement Wade Aikman (Drew Waters) and the man who masterminded his downfall, Joe McCoy (D.W Moffett).

Other news out this summer:
-Negotiations right now are for Minka Kelly to come back for 2 episodes in the middle of the season.
-Zack Gilford is locked for 7 episodes to do a Smash/Street style departure, up from the 5 he was originally contracted for.
-Adrienne Palicki will not be appearing in S4 at all (barring some sort of scheduling miracle) as she is off shooting the "Red Dawn" remake. (Ironically, of all the characters who would realisitically be stuck in Dillon forever, Tyra was the winner. And now it looks like she's the only one to get out.)
-Head writer Jason Katims's new NBC show is beyond cursed. People are dying on the set, Maura Tierney (lead role) gets cancer, the show is bumped from fall to midseason, Maura Tierney has to drop out of the show because of cancer, so they now have to go back and start from scratch with a new actress, putting them pretty far behind schedule. All that to say, it's not yet known how he's splitting time between that trainwreck and the FNL writers room.

And the bad news:
-No premiere on NBC until next summer. With Leno airing 5 nites a week, NBC didn't have any slots, and the ratings aren't high enough to justify running it, so they are dumping it in the summer. Probably a good time to subscribe to DTV...

F Direct TV! Wish this thing was on Dish.

Looks like they are somewhat reinventing themselves which I guess they had no choice.

Guess I'm waiting until next summer.

You don't have to wait until NBC shows it...you can always just download the torrent the very next day on Mininova, at least that's what I did last season.

Texas Tech coach Mike Leach took advantage of being in Austin Friday night to film a brief cameo appearance for an upcoming episode of "Friday Night Lights."

It's not known whether Leach will be playing a character or himself in the short appearance, which according to the Austin American-Statesman was filmed in an Austin-area gas station.

Producers of the show have been wanting to include him for the past several months. Texas football coach Mack Brown and men's basketball coach Rick Barnes have made appearances in previous shows in the series.

Leach likely will appear on the second show of the season which will debut Oct. 28.

Appearing on the show apparently was important enough for Leach to forego his traditional Friday night trip to the movies on the night before a game.

This is the only reason I'm currently holding on to DirecTV. I am wanting to ditch it and go to Uverse but just can't make myself do it with FNL coming up.

Watched the extended promo #5, at the end it says "Premieres Tonight 9pm ET/PT" while the general acceptance is that it starts up the last Friday of October.

What's the word on that?
20ag07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
All the other promos say premiering on Wed, 10/28, except that extended #5 one, which was actually put on youtube in the middle of the night yesterday after my original post. I'd assume that's a video they aren't planning on running on TV until 10/28, which is why it says "tonight" vs. "10/28".

Is Aimee Teegarden currently in Austin? I'm 99% sure I saw her walking down the street when I was in town for ACL the other day.

Question: Rumor has it (via Twitter) that you’ve seen the season premiere of Friday Night Lights. The first season was the best. Does season 4 have that same feel? —Shannon

Ausiello: It does. As I tweeted earlier today, the premiere (airing Oct. 28 on DIRECTV’S The 101 Network) is an epic triumph. Exec producer Jason Katims promised that the episode — which focuses on Coach Taylor starting over from scratch with the Bad News Bears East Dillon Lions — would feel like a second pilot, and he wasn’t kidding. Katims (who wrote the ep) did a remarkable job balancing the new (six characters!) with the old (Tami, Julie, Saracen, Riggins, Landry, and J.D.)

A few very very very light teasers follow on the link. Removed here, but don't click on the link if you're a "spoiler"phobe.

In other news, Steve Harris, from The Practice, was cast in an extended role (7ish episodes) as the parent of a new character. Eugene Young was one of my favorite characters on that show, and I think he'll fit in very well here.

To respond to this one- yeah, they have been in town a month or two and are 5 episodes or so into shooting this season. So good chance it was her.

my neighbor's house backs up to the house they use for the coach's house (which is in a cul de sac) and they have to run cables thru his yard. every time they film, he gets $100 a pop. i think he made about $1000 off it last year and is probably getting about that this year.
20ag07

That should make you a close enough neighbor too...haven't figured out how to undercut him yet and let them run them through your yard for $75?

haha Doug, I used to live in that neighborhood. I saw they put the Riggins' house up for sale last year. Did it ever sell?

I always wondered about the house they ran the cables though and parked the big trucks in front of. It was really cool to live there and feel almost like you're a part of it. Just stay away from Manor Rd.
