This is supposedly to protect children. A better way to protect children would be to make some sort of attempt to prevent school shootings.

The problem is that nothing is being done to prevent further school shootings. Sure they CAN do more than one thing at a time but they aren't. And blocking kids from PornHub is great but that isn't going to do a thing to keep kids from seeing porn online. There are millions of other options.

I'm not sure I even understand what you're saying, but the odds of a kid getting shot in school are like 1 in 15,000,000. The odds of a minor kid being psychologically affected in an adverse way from watching porn are like 1 in 2. It's way more prevalent and way more dangerous than school shootings.

Danger is a function of probability, and danger is not limited to just being killed or physically harmed. How many more minor children have been harmed by watching porn than have been killed from going to school? That is the proper inquiry. The answer is in the tens of millions, conservatively.

I think it's more that they know their users want to do be as anonymous as possible. Which is understandable. It's also not their job to parent your children.

Children cannot buy alcohol, cigarettes, drive, go into bars after certain hours, go to strip clubs (unless it's drag), or do lots of things that adults can do and ARE REQUIRED TO SHOW ID TO PARTICIPATE IN THOSE ACTIVITIES.

I would say the wide availability of porn is a massive net negative for our civilization. Birth rates plummeting, testosterone levels plummeting, sex crime, incels, obesity, depression, overall societal degeneracy. I could keep going. I think porn is far more damaging to our national character than tobacco.
