You're right, my bad. Since murder is already illegal we have done more than enough to make children safe in schools.
Just logical fallacy after logical fallacy from you. Does passing a law for firefighters pensions mean they also cant pass legislation dealing with school shooting? They're not mutually exclusive and are addressing different issues.
The problem is that nothing is being done to prevent further school shootings. Sure they CAN do more than one thing at a time but they aren't. And blocking kids from PornHub is great but that isn't going to do a thing to keep kids from seeing porn online. There are millions of other options.

Just say it out loud. Ban all guns. Until then nothing else should be passed by any legislative body in the US.
I'm not in favor of that in the least but just keep pushing that false narrative while kids are dying in school.
And yet you've proposed no solutions to "kids dying in schools".
There's tons of things that could happen.

Some off the top of my head...

- reinstate the assault weapons ban

Reinstate the assault weapons ban that was in effect in 1999 when 15 kids died and 24 were injured at Columbine High School? That ban?
Oh ****, you're totally right. Mass shootings have gone done dramatically since it expired in 2004.

Columbine was an outlier. 15 deaths. Next highest death toll from a school shooting during the ban period was 5 from the 1998 Westside Middle School shooting in Craighead County, Arkansas.

Number of mass shootings at schools during assault weapons ban: 1
Number of mass shootings at schools since assault weapons ban: ???? (and counting)

Assault weapon bans don't work

So...basically, they only punish law abiding citizens while not achieving their stated goal. Thanks for the totalitarianism...
Lol. An editorial from some random that has "Second Amendment" in the tags. I'm sure he's right despite much evidence to the contrary.

"Federal Government's Study"...the same government that gets it's money from gun lobbyists?

Who did the study, the NRA?

That article says nothing about the assault weapons ban and how it impacted mass shootings. It only references "crimes" committed with them. There is a huge difference. The other article linked in the one you posted doesn't prove your point either if you read the article and don't rely on the words you used in the link. If anything it shows how gun laws can work.

Quote:

Key Findings

Scientific evidence on gun policies' effects is modest but supports a few conclusions

  • Of more than 200 combinations of policies and outcomes, surprisingly few have been the subject of methodologically rigorous investigation. Notably, research into five of the examined outcomes is either unavailable or almost entirely inconclusive, and three of these five outcomes represent issues of particular concern to gun owners or gun industry stakeholders.
  • Available evidence supports the conclusion that child-access prevention laws, or safe storage laws, reduce self-inflicted fatal or nonfatal firearm injuries, including unintentional and intentional self-injuries, among youth.
  • There is supportive evidence that stand-your-ground laws are associated with increases in firearm homicides and moderate evidence that they increase the total number of homicides.
  • There is moderate evidence that state laws prohibiting gun ownership by individuals subject to domestic violence restraining orders decrease total and firearm-related intimate partner homicides.
  • There is moderate evidence that waiting periods reduce firearm suicides and total homicides and limited evidence that they reduce total suicides and firearm homicides.
  • No studies meeting the authors' inclusion criteria have examined the effects of gun-free zones, laws allowing armed staff in kindergarten through grade 12 schools, or required reporting of lost or stolen firearms.

Well, we start by realizing that it's THE ****ING SHOOTER that's the problem, not the ****ING TOOL the shooter used.

Do you support a total ban on automobiles in order to eliminate the drunk driving death issue (which kills more people)? Or do you understand that it was the ****ING DRIVER that killed the people and the vehicle was merely the tool that happened to be used?

Oh...and I'm not a Christian so, sorry that the T&P isn't my solution.

Great list, one problem. The most deadly shooting on it didn't involve assault weapons. He used pistols.

VIRGINIA TECH, April 2007, 32 dead

A 23-year-old student killed 32 people on the campus in Blacksburg, Virginia, in April 2007; more than two dozen others were wounded. The gunman then killed himself.

Like UT Austin? And Columbine? And all the others with pistols which are overwhelmingly the gun of choice in gun deaths by an overwhelming margin?

And I like how the "one exception" is the most deadly of all. Which means an assault weapons ban would do precisely dick

The dirty truth is you know an assault weapons ban would do nothing. You know these losers use it, not because they did some careful analysis on the situation, but because it looks cool and it's what everyone else uses. Ban it and they just use a sawed off shotgun and semi auto carbine like Columbine and kill 15. Ban those and they use a hunting rifle to kill 15 like UT Austin. Ban those and leave us with pistols and you get 32 dead at Virginia Tech.

And then what do you ban?

Was at the tailend playboy sneaking era and beginning of internet porn era with everyone getting PCs in their rooms etc in HS. While I think choking the chicken and figuring it out and can understand the posters joking about their playboy stealing days, I cannot fathom how ridiculous teen boys are with all the tech out there today.

It is certainly different than stealing a dads old playboy and looking at nice jugs. I have a young daughter and a boy on the way and I am very worried about tackling the parenting regarding technology as it changes so rapidly. I do not doubt there are certain creepy middle school kids out there that have been influenced by unrestricted access to the internet including porn but really it's an overall issue in my mind.

Just my current thoughts on the subject.

I do love me some good looking ta-tas from time to time.

And if they are gone then other firearms take their place. And are just as deadly. End the end you've solved nothing.

Handguns are overwhelmingly responsible for gun deaths in this country.

Strawman argument.

No one is talking about gun deaths in broadest of terms. The discussion has been about mass/school shootings.

Whether you realize/understand it or not, there is a difference between a 7 round pistol and a 30 round rifle. Do we deploy troops armed only with 9mm handguns?

The problem is that you've put forth a "solution" that history has shown to have a massive point of failure. I've worked in engineering for 20 years and one of the most futile ways to solve problems is to simply throw **** against the wall and hope it works. If you can easily identify a failure in a proposed solution it should be ignored. Banning "assault weapons", whatever the **** those even are, solved nothing. You'd still have the same deaths, possibly more in some situations, and then left throwing ever more **** against the wall. And when I see you rely on that strategy it calls in to question how much analysis you've done for the others.
