Age: 20-33 is right where you want to be. That's ideal world conditions at any sex or gender.

Height: Inversely proportional to weight. That 5'9 and above is your sweet spot. Shorter and its a constant battle with weight, and poor lifestyle choices will bleed over and drag you down. So you got to watch for that.

Smoking: I almost prefer a smoker nowadays. My absolute best relationships have all been with smokers. All things considered. You go out and smoke out the house, and away from the house all you want. No smoking in the house. But overall, I don't mind if you smoke, and I'd encourage it. It really keeps the weight off and the appetite down for most folks. Folks that smokes's craving for sugar and carbs are way down. The nicotine overpowers that neural network. And it gives them something to do and not be right up on your ass. Smokers are generally more content than nonsmokers. In my experience.

Drinking: Nope. I ain't about people drinking and going crazy. If you the type of person where alcohol is a stimulant. I don't want that on or near my premises. I've come to Jesus on that. Smoke all the weed you want. Be high all day every day. Idgaf. But no drinking on a regular basis. Especially if you over 35. Which you shouldn't be. If you reading this far.

Education/Career: I don't give a **** what you do. If you working. I'f you ain't working. Have something to to that don't involve me. I don't need to see you more then 4 -5 hours a day. I don't want to be going to a bunch of work bs and social events. That **** will suck the life right out you. Its a nightmare. So a 'low achiever' is a real plus in my book.

Kids: No kids. I got a non kid friendly lifestyle. I don't want to see a kid, hear a kid or have a kid calling on the phone while Im trying to relax.

I think a low achiever smoker fits you perfectly given how inarticulate your writing is. Yikes!

P.s. glad you don't want to be around kids.
He had to have copied that from somewhere. No way does a guy say he is immediately judgy about tattoos but encourages smoking.
Just for the record I didn't say boo about tattoos. I'm for all kinds of tattoos, piercings and all that. If you got a bunch of prison ass looking tats, thats one thing. Even a sleeve is fine with me. You can have giant angel wings on your entire back that's great.

Only bad thing about tats is that is hard for me to squint my eyes and pretend like you are a different person. Kind of ruins it, you know. But ... you cant have everything. And sometimes you got to play the cards you dealt.

This is a really interesting thread.

I'm 37 and married with 2 kids. It's funny how I forget how tough dating was. Sometimes when talking to my single friends, I delude myself into thinking I could go out and pick up chicks easier now than ever since I'm making more money now and I just have so much more experience being with a woman (relationally and sexually).

I'm sure if I somehow found myself in that position, it would be way harder than I think. Of course I'm certainly not looking to find out.

Remain hopeful guys. I hope you all find what you are looking for.

I'm in a similar position.

A friend of mine (50's) went through a messy divorce. Both he, and his ex, have new partners now; less than 2 years later.

Looking back on the time I was dating; I knew some people that never seemed to find what they were looking for. They were attractive, successful, etc… but things never worked out. I don't think the problem was that they were too picky, but that they had some relationship issues (emotional damage) that was hidden from the world but manifested itself in their inability to maintain a relationship.

Ultimately, we are all broken people…but some of us have a harder time than others with intimacy.

A lot of us (me included) complain about the quality of the people in the dating pool. Many of us (me included) have been ridiculed for having preferences and told that we need to lower our standards...yada, yada, yada...

No one has actually talked about what their preferences are. Let's see them. List your preferences, not necessarily "deal breakers", but just the ideal things you are looking for in a partner. We all know that you will be hard pressed to find someone that matches all of them, but we all have our own ideas that we use to guide us in ourt dating and mating routines. Our preferences are what make up unique and noboday should be called out for what they prefer. If you like 'em short and wide - more power to you. If you like 'em rich and old - more power to you. If you like them barely legal - seek treatment.

Your Age: 43
Location: Charleston, SC

Looking for: Women
Age: 35-46
Height: The taller, the better!
Physique: Takes care of herself
Smoking: Nope
Drinking: Eh, that's ok
Education/Career: Stable, actual career. I don't need another dependent.
Kids: That's alright but I have two
Other: Being a functioning adult would be great but that by itself seems to be a tall order. Not currently bitter of screwed up over a past divorce is a major plus too.

Being ok with my kids who are 6 and turning 4 soon reduces the dating pool to 0.01% of women so it looks like the single life for me!

So let's call it 1.1% of the male population.

Well, I suppose it's a good thing I'm not desperate to find someone then.

And not that I need to explain myself about the height thing, but I'm 5'9. It's not like I'm one of those girls who is 5'1 and won't look at anyone under 6'0. As many of you pointed out, I can't control how tall I am and I simply prefer men who are taller.

Finally, the math here is either very fuzzy, or there is some weird fluke in my social circle because of all the single men I know personally, at least 80% of them meet all the criteria I listed. They're undateaeble (for me) for other reasons, but wouldn't be eliminated because of my preferences for height, physique, substance habits, or education/career/income.

I am just pointing out how much that narrows down the number of "suitable men"

There is the birds of a feather phenomenon in which people tend to socialize with other people that match them regarding educational status, age, income level, and even attractiveness. It could be that as a high performing individual you have a social circle with other high performing individuals.

The math however is pretty accurate.

Keep in mind that 1.1% of the male population is still 1/100 men. Meaning that if you meet 1000 random men on the streets only 11 will meet you base requirements. (I am NOT trying to mansplain statistics to you. I am using this statement as a jumping off point for the REAL point).

But these men in your social circle are not random men. They are in your social circle because they have qualities that you value. If you did not value their qualities you would not consider them suitable for friendship.

So these men in your social circle have already been selected by you in some way shape or form. Because you have already selected them (platonically or not) it makes perfect sense they would already check some of your boxes.

Single women in this thread, you said wanted someone reasonably successful. What does that mean? Ags4dqwin used 70k/year. Is that what you think or are you looking for someone making 2x that? 3x that? I'm just curious what your salary floor is.

I don't measure success by income. There are many ways to be successful in a career. I honestly don't even know how much my last boyfriend made. I considered him successful, based on his accomplishments during his 20+ years in the military.

Thats fair, and I should have discussed having a comfortable income vice being successful. That being said, the question about income remains. So say a guy can only take one local vacation a year instead of being able to jet off to tulum or iceland or wherever the cool kids go, or cant afford to go out to eat every weekend. Is that a deal breaker?

$70k is probably a good floor. I certainly don't need someone supporting me, but I expect them to have their financial house in order as I have mine in order. To me this means able to pay your basic bills, save for retirement/emergencies, have a little fun money. I am quite independent and will go on vacation wherever alone if no one can afford to go where I want, but I generally travel extremely cheap and stay in hostels and get around on the cheap. I prefer to camp and backpack. So really whatever salary you can get by on with your bills paid and a bit saved for the future, most can afford my "extras"

You'd be fine with a guy making $70k? How much do you make? You live in Colorado, correct? 70k doesn't go far there. It's like Austin.

Are you okay with $70k because you're loaded?

$70k doesn't go anywhere unless it's supplemental income. Sure you can make way less but you're probably a demographic not on this board.

To answer the question floated above - I would think women looking for men in their 30s would expect $200k+ to shut their traps. Depending on trashiness level, "six figures" may be enough to keep them quiet.

Anyway for purposes of this thread I'm assuming women would want a guy to be making $200k+. That's purchasing power to buy a house and give them what they want.

If I'm wrong let hear it.

If 200k is the floor, that takes that 1-2% down to .1-.2% I would think. 200k/year is something like top 5-10% of earners or thereabouts i would think.
