Made a pilgrimage to the AF museum this weekend. Will post pics later, but it was amazing!

Having gone to tons of airshows and museums since I was a little kid, that was the first Hustler I had seen in person. I spent a lot of time just looking it over and taking it in. They have some really cool aircraft in that museum.

Coolest thing I've been passed by was an Airbus 330 tanker dragging 4 eurofighters over Saudi Arabia.

Also was lucky enough to depart Mildenhall one day past Lakenheath's MOAs and could watch the Strike Eagles out there playing around with some BFM.

Star Wars canyon is in the China Lake complex I believe. I've never done that one. 1266 goes from just north of Yuma around the chocolate mountains, over the Salton sea and south to another range. That pic is right after crossing the SS east to west

Looking into an F-22's engine

Where are those at?

Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. We were in Columbus for a wedding and decided to make a trip there.

I only had about 4 hours to go through it. It would really take all day or maybe more to really soak in everything that is in those hangars.

We got there at 9:45 and stayed until they closed at 5, and I wish I could have been there longer. We were planning on getting there at 9, but the fam took forever to get out.

ETA The collection is massive. It's astounding that they have both a YF-12 AND SR-71. They also seemed to have every F-86 variant ever made, along with just about every famous USAF aircraft except the Enola Gay. Bockscar is a nice second though. The XB-70 is massive and just incredibly impressive in person. It is hard to imagine it at Mach 3.

It was built in the early 80's, so they might sue you...

Dad donated his WW2 flying jacket and "chit patch" there for display.


First SR71 I saw was at the Barksdale air show when I was a kid and dad was stationed there (1973/74?). It was heavily guarded and roped off for a distance.
