Winner!

To me, the Mustang was the most elegant, but the P-38 Lightning was the sexiest.

VERY cool airplane. Lindberg was able to get tons of additional performance out of the Lightning.

Can't post photos. But either the British lightning or Vulcan were the ugliest

F-111 was incredibly sexy with wings back

These are more tame, but just as fun. IIRC, these were deployed to desert storm and had to be repainted very quickly. Someone got creative.

I can't imagine the upkeep on an airplane that routinely takes off, lands, and bobs about in salt water, but I could sure see myself island hopping and relaxing in seclusion in something like this...

A KC-10 boom operator taped some centerfolds to his window while my wingman and I got some gas one day in Afghanistan. No picture but definitely qualifies as airplane porn.

Cool story on Witchcraft. Those names are all the people that restored the plane.

And sponsors. Dad's name is on one bomb bay door. When he flew, they let him get up in the bombardier seat - they NEVER do that with ordinary riders.

So here is my association with Witchcraft. My dad used to work at an airplane company with its own airport in Kerrville. Witchcraft and several other planes landed there one day. My dad snapped several pictures of the aircraft as they taxied and took off.

He frequently writes letters to some men in state penitentiary as pen pals, so my dad sent them the pictures he took.

One of his inmate writers drew these drawings and sent them back to my father. I display them in my US History class room to my high school students.

Oh yeah, it was hauling.

I've always said a fighter jet pilot would be the ultimate job in a dick measuring contest...

Never ask a man if he's a fighter pilot. If he is, he'll tell you and if he isn't you don't want to embarrass him.

Great man your dad.

Your dad has seen quite the range of bombers. Has he ever stated which was his favorite and which the worst? I imagine his opinion may have much to do with his role within each aircraft...I can't think being stuffed into a glass ball on the belly of the plane with nothing but ground below you offers any great satisfaction, especially when said view also offers up every enemy fighter and flak burst visible from that position.

Have a great uncle who was a B-24 pilot, lost over Borneo in 1944.

I have to ask him today when I call. He hated the B-17 (he was a belly gunner). He came close to being killed 4 different times in the 24 (shot down while nailing the bridge over the River Kwai), but has mentioned the B-52 being the most "crew accommodating".

My dad was a UH-1 pilot in Vietnam, and I've always thought those guys win that contest. Using rotor blades to cut small limbs to fit into LZs, Pulling out troops under fire. No way to eject if things go wrong. It was amazing what they did.
