You would be shocked at some of the people who are into Hotwifing and open marriage.

I didn't read the thread but I'm assuming it's a bunch of bible thumpers judging others' private lives, people making puke faces at fairly tame explanations of polyamory, bad jokes about Holly, and BB with bright spots of genuine humor?

Open "marriages" are just one form of the vast perversion of marriage as God intends for it to be. It is an absolute fallacy and a joke. In fact, it is not a marriage at all. It is a continuous cycle of adultery that in no way leads to a genuinely fulfilling marriage.

I'm a Christian, and imma disagree with this.

While I respect your view as it relates to Christainity, and I would ask you start a new thread on the Religion board. If I wanted to debate the religious aspects of open marriage I would do it on that board, not the general board.

I didn't make this thread to call anyone out for being in an open marriage. I was simply asking more about what everyone's view was since I now know two couples who have embraced this lifestyle.

I will say that I do not know if both are very strong relationships as that's not really any of my business.

I realize that this a personal lifestyle choice for these couples and I have no room to judge them as I can't even hold onto a boyfriend.

So a second friend has told me they are in an open marriage. The first couple was always a bit out there so wasn't a surprise. The second couple is closer to "normal" so more of a surprise.

I am not married so I was seeing what the married folks thought?
Why get married if this is the case, just live together and have an extra room for "friends" to visit.

Financial arrangements, social structures, and the appearance of "normalcy."

Yeah, the wife may wear the pants and do what she wants, but as far as your parents know you're in a normal, traditional marriage and don't have to think too much for yourself.

You asked "what everyone's view was" on open marriage. The poster who offered a critical opinion was within the parameters of discussion you established.

By that logic, all 100% monogamous couple should last until death from the moment they start dating, as there is no reason for them to break up.

Your argument that a poly couple must have broke up because one of them was sleeping with other people is akin to saying that two gay dudes broke up because one found out the other liked ****. It makes no sense.

Again, like others in this thread, you are inserting yourself into the situation and relaying how you would feel as being the truth for everyone. We are not like you. And that's okay. If everyone was wired like everyone else the world would be a mighty dull place.

I'm arguing the idea that a poly couple breaking up because one of them is engaging in poly activity is preposterous. that's all. no need to get defensive

I'm going to stop this sidebar though, because Ag_of_08 can speak for themself, if they care to.

Ag_of_08 is far from a "straight guy"

Here's the real problem: the couple sets rules and boundaries ahead of time as to what is or is not acceptable.

In what universe does a woman ever know what she wants or what will make her happy? And since when does that ever stay a static goal?

Kind of tough to separate the marriage discussion from your religious viewpoint. Most of us did get married in a church, after all...
