I wonder how he brought it to school? If he had just hung it around his neck on a gold chain and had a different shirt on, the perception of this would have been different unfortunately.

That was referring to blaming society instead of taking responsibility for ones own actions, or placing the blame on the guilty individuals in this case.
Yep. We're so quick to look for systemic causes that individuals who make mistakes have no reason to learn from their own experiences.
One person ****s up, blame the person. Multiple people **** up at the same time in exactly the same way, there's a much bigger problem.

Why is any of this a surprise? The school system is the biggest unthinking bureaucracy. My nephew was told that he was going to be sent to an alternative school after returning to school after getting a concussion in a football game earlier this year. His crime? Bringing a bottle of Advil/Tylenol to the school nurse to distribute to him for the concussion without the required paperwork from his parents. He actually brought it to the nurse before school on his first day back. It took 2 days of meetings with the administration at the school to get it sorted out where they did not sent him to the alternative school.

This kid didn't even get as far as doing anything wrong. The question of intent or tolerance doesn't even enter into the equation, because from the beginning he didn't even do anything that could be perceived as against any rules or laws by absolutely any interpretation.
It was his plan all along!

Don't do stupid things like arrest kids for having a clock and don't get sued.
If we weren't teaching these types engineering, they wouldn't be bringing bomb parts to school. These fine officers were doing their jobs protecting us and should be commended.
