This is just so dumb. I feel for him. People are pushing for more STEM education, and when kids get interested in it and want to show it off at school, this crap happens.

I'm baffled that people are actually defending the insane notion that this kid had some sort of "agenda" or was willfully trying to provoke a racist response.

The idiots running our public schools don't seem to understand that zero tolerance doesn't mean going nuclear on the consequences in every single instance. We should never tolerate a student having a gun on school property, but when a kid leaves a gun in their car and immediately notifies the office to try to fix the situation, the kid shouldn't be arrested and expelled. My wife's aunt works for a high school in a Dallas suburb where this actually happened a few years ago. Stupid.

yeah, this has nothing to do with "zero tolerance." This is literally negative tolerance. Zero tolerance implies that students be punished for their actions regardless of their intentions. This kid is being punished without having done anything wrong by any letter of any law, BECAUSE of racist perceptions about hypothetical intentions, even though those "intentions" are actually 180 degree counter to the kids actual actions.
This goes so far beyond "zero tolerance" that it stops being funny. Teachers, administrators, and cops involved in this should all be charged, punished, and sued into oblivion.

That was referring to blaming society instead of taking responsibility for ones own actions, or placing the blame on the guilty individuals in this case.
