This Colorado Edmonton series is crazy. Bet under 7.5 tonight

Mike Smith looks really suspect at times but CO is really good. At least the Oilers came back and made a game of it in game 1... tonight, not so much.

Hopefully they can make a series of it at home

It's gonna be tough for anyone to outscore the Avs 4 times. But my vote is for the rangers to win it all. If damn pat damn maroon wins another cup I'm gonna puke.

I'm certainly pulling for the Rangers but if it ends up Tampa/Colorado in the Finals, I will pull for Tampa even though I'm ready for someone to knock them off.

As a Stars fan since they moved to Dallas, there are only 2 teams that I have extreme hatred for and that is Colorado and Detroit and that will never change.

Read my post above. As a Stars fan since they moved to Dallas, two teams I will never pull for are Colorado and Detroit.

Stars re-signed Gurianov for next year. Hopefully with a new coach he can find that offensive punch he had previously. Didn't seem like he fit Bowness' style at all

I don't like the Avs, but I can respect what they've built there now - they are damn good and fun to watch.

I like the one-year "prove it" contract.

It would be great if the Stars signed Cassidy.

Latest rumor is Peter DeBoer. Don't want.

Stars trade Ben Bishop and a 7th round pick to Buffalo for future considerations.

Looks like more of a bookkeeping move to let Dallas clear cap space and probably Buffalo push toward the salary floor.

Yep. Opens up almost $5M.

Reading and listening to a lot of Nill's comments since the season ended, they want to use cap space to obviously get their RFAs signed but to also get a right handed d-man. Whether that's Klinger (unlikely) or someone else is TBD.

They'll also need to figure out the backup goalie situation (could actually end up being Dobby if they're comfortable with his recovery, as crazy as that sounds). The forward group is probably only getting "upgraded" with a youngster or two and the hope that Seguin has a career renaissance. There will probably be money to get a bottom 6 role player but not much else (short of a trade).

Sucks they don't/won't have a lot of cap space, but the Benn/Seguin contracts are what they are, and Stephen Johns was supposed to be a long term solution on defense.

So basically, we need to hit on the head coaching hire (understatement), get Seguin to step up, and have a young guy come in and provide a spark. IF, and that's a big IF, all these things happen, we'll be in good shape. If one or more of those things don't happen, we'll probably be a team on the bubble again and Nill will get reassigned and Gagliardi will bring in new blood. Jere Lehtinen anyone?

Should get rid of Klingberg and bring Harley up to replace. I don't know how long it typically takes to move through the ranks but Wyatt Johnston had a big leap last year - 124 points in the OHL is super promising and Mavrik Bourque looks like he'll be a solid player. There are some exciting pieces in the farm system

Harley for Klingberg is a net loss. Harley may develop into to something good, but Klinger is a true top pairing defenseman. Not to mention that Harley is left handed. That would mean your only right handed dman is Hakanpaa. Man that Suter deal last offseason was a mistake. Finding a right handed shot that can play 2nd pairing is a must this offseason.

There are definitely a couple of young forwards that could make the jump soon. The key is going to be if any of those guys can adapt and play with the big boys. For instance, Johnston is only 19 and has been playing against 16-21 year olds. Quite a leap to the NHL. I bet we see one newbie to start the season though and at least a second before the end of it.

Klingberg is absolutely not a top pairing defenseman and you can't convince me otherwise. Maybe 2 or 3 years ago. Not in the present

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I guess. But at absolute worst he's one of this teams best 2-3 defensemen. Losing him is a big deal and leaves a huge hole in the roster.

Either way, I think Harley for Klingberg is a net negative, at least at this point in Harley's career

I never really got the Suter contract. It always seemed too aggressive for a team up against the salary cap

John Tortorella and Bruce Cassidy are off the board. I hope we haven't settled on DeBoer.

At this point I'm hoping for Savard (Windsor Spitfires)

I wouldn't mind that at all. Maybe the reason for the delay is that he's still coaching. One can hope...

Yeah, I don't want the guy who had the better team and lost to both the Stars and Canadiens in the playoffs.

I wouldn't mind Lindy Ruff back here. Someone who will open the offense back up to free-flying. Is Deboer that type of coach? I never really saw Vegas as a high flying team?

Give me Lindy's offense and now that we have Otter and better defensemen we could be pretty dominant.
Danny Vermin

Just talked to my insider. He said it was between Cassidy and Savard so he thinks it will be Savard.

My call doesn't look good. Deboer looks to be the guy.

I know nothing about any of these guys. What's the best bet?

The problem with a Lindy Ruff type hire is it's too far in the opposite direction of Hitchcock/Montgomery/Bowness. Sure, the offense was fun, but there was no defensive structure. That doesn't win. Need someone in between, IMO. DeBoer technically fits that bill (in between the 2 extremes).

DeBoer wouldn't be the worst hire in the world. He's a good coach. Likes for his teams to play structurally sound defense, preaches structured zone exits, and actually has an offensive philosophy. The offense is originated from the blue line, typically. He also has a pretty good playoff record. The issues are that he's not as inclined to play young guys as other candidates out there, has been known to throw his goalies under the bus, isn't as offensive minded as most would like, and has really has never won anything.

I think Cassidy was a real possibility and one I would have gladly welcomed. Sounds like he and other candidates are nervous about the uncertainty of Nill's future. His contract expires after next year, and no coach wants to walk into an unstable GM situation.

DeBoer is probably the most like candidate at his point, but there's reason to be hopeful that it could be someone else.

I would go with Savard since this team needs a coach who will help to bring up the younger talent.

Since Nill's status is still on shaky ground it will probably be DeBoer. Bring in the veteran coach and more gritty veterans.

Because of this team's cap situation they are going to have to rely on youth to backfill the lineup the next few seasons. If they get a coach unwilling to promote the youth movement...
