An article talking about starters that may be better in relief, like Andrew Miller...Andrew Cashner is on the list. Apparently Doug Brocail said he could "fix" Cashner back when we were pursuing him during the trade deadline. I know we are looking for starters but...it is an interesting idea.

I trust Jon Daniels on these one year flyer type deals. Brocail seems incompetent, though, so that cancels out any hope.

It is as if they swapped Holland and Cashner.

Cashner has lost velocity on his pitches and as a result... his stats show the mediocrity.

It might be Cashner's issues are mechanical, where as Holland's are mental. Both could be "change-of-scenery" candidates.

I think Cashner has more upside.

I think this closes the door on Holland. It tells a lot, as well, looking at their numbers.

At $10M, I think that is the going rate for a guy projected to eat innings and keep you in the game.

I truly think Darvish and Perez will make huge improvements in their 2nd year back from TJ surgery. AJG should improve, as well, although I have little trust in him. As long as he keeps guys off base, the HRs have less impact, but he will give up HRs.

They might Marisnick was good in the field but absolute s*** at the plate. They need somebody.

Just saw Grant's article. I definitely don't want to be giving up Odor or Mazara for him or even Dyson, Diekman or Kela plus Profar or Gallo. Those trade chips are better used elsewhere. Definitely think Profar is gone before spring and I'd like them to get what they can out of Gallo now before he definitively shows he isn't a big league player.

Sounds like the Astros are getting Encarnacion. They've had a much better offseason so far and, if they can swing Sale are gonna be heavy favorites for the division.

He'll turn 40 in April. Had a nice season but was lousy in the postseason. You always wonder what the old guys will have in the tank at the end.

Interesting article about moving Cashner to the pen. The theme is that if you have 2 dominant pitches, you can move to the pen, throw them exclusively, pick up a few mph on the fastball, and dump the ineffective pitches.

That said, not looking to ruin anybody, but if Cashner went to relief, who from the pen could become a starter? Bush and Kela seem like 2 guys who would have a shot. Bush, because he has very good composure and seems durable. Kela, because I think he can be dominant with 3 pitches.

If I ran the world, I would really look at Kela as a starter. I don't know if he has history there, but hey, I'm just a fan. Really love his stuff, but his high era is a mystery.

Same here. Disaster after disaster with trying to convert relievers to starters, combined with the fact that Diekman and Dyson definitely had their wobbly stretches. A lock-down bullpen can cover for a lot of weaknesses, or on the flipside, a shaky bullpen can erase some strengths. Bolster that pen and go find a starter through another avenue.
