A friends son got bitten by a rattlesnake in the RGV this past weekend. Heard about it on FB. Apparently he was wearing snake boots. 2 hospitals, 2 ambulance rides and 4 doses of antivenin. He's going to be ok. Bit on the inner calf a few inches below the knee.

i saw a 3 foot gator a couple days after christmas last year in a lake. temps were low 50s. i was surprised but i guess the water was abnormally warm for that time of year.

I think the key is water temp for gators. We run into them on our duck lease early in the season if it's 50-60F outside but the sun is out and the water temp is still 60s.

Are coachwhips territorial? I found remnants of a shed the other day by the front of our new house. A week later, I walked around the corner and spooked him away from the side of the house. A couple of days ago I found a perfect head to tail complete shed on my front walk. 6' long. It's a very cool snake, but I am hoping it is shy enough to keep clear of my wife.

Frankly, I'm glad to have it around handling pest control.

I think this gator is comfortable because he's smart! This particular area of the bayou isn't hunted/fished. I'm pretty sure it's the same gator, but I've been photographing him for the past three years!

I found snake city today. These guys were all in the same spot at the same time, a little creek that feeds the San Antonio River way down South.

Pretty sure there isn't a diamondback on there.

It's broad banded then blotched then I can't tell on mobile for the last one.

I think I figured out why this creek is full of snakes. It's very shallow and there's tons of little minnows that the snakes apparently like to eat.

Weird. I found another coachwhip shed in almost the exact same place as the other but this one was slightly smaller and shorter.

Do you have a lot of rocks or concrete around the area?

They might be using something around your house to rub off their skin if the area you're in doesn't have a lot of other options.

Notice how the rat snake is trying to get away, guys and gals, then becomes defensive when she starts getting too close... take notes people. Snakes don't like us.

Correct. Except for bears (they love to be tickled) and buffalo (they like when you charge at them or pick them up and put them in your backseat)
