not sure why but it does seem like rattlers , in spite of their reputation, are tasty treat for a number of animals especially other snakes.

An actual venomous snake in close proximity people and livestock. Interesting place to find one.

For others that might not be aware, that's a copperhead.

Sorry, the pic of the water snake and the moccasin were both taken around the same lake in the Memphis, TN area.

Saw a baby moc on the same lake a couple days ago but not seen much else so far this year.
Where in Memphis? I live out in G'town and have seen a few this year.
Actually those snake pics were taken in Germantown at Grove Park lake.

Wife caught a photo of (I think) a couple of banded water snakes having a snog just off a trail in Hershey park today. I'll post later when I figure out how to host the pic and we're clear that staff won't ban me for snake porn.

My aunt "did lots of research" and swears this is a "water moccasin because you can see the eyes when you look down at the head from above". #BSLM

I've told her over and over "IT'S NOT A WATER MOCCASIN!!" "YOU'RE ABOUT TO HAVE ISSUES WITH MICE." She thinks I'm an idiot.

Wife said she sees those type of snakes all the time at Hershey lately. First time, she freaked out because she thought they were water moccasins or something venomous. After showing her pictures of water snakes and explaining that they eat rats and bugs, she just tries to shoo them off of the trail before they get run over by a cyclist or stepped on by a runner. I think she felt bad that she may have interrupted their love session but better to have blue balls than a snapped spine, I guess.

Sadly not my picture, but a neighbors. It's morel mushroom hunting time here in NE Kansas and people hit the woods in droves, particularly after a little rain like we've had this week. That is a morel you see in the top left part of the photo. ...below that, NOT a Morel.

Am I missing seeing the head & rattle on that thing?

I couldn't ID from that pic but I've never seen a snake in Kansas. The handful of times I've been there it was pheasant season.

You can't see the rattle but the head is in the center of the coil, just right of the leaves.

Rat snake trying to eat duck eggs. I sent him back under the house back to do his job eating mice. He struck at my stick but was otherwise very compliant.

Couple recent venomous snakes:

Coral snake in shed, hence the dull colors


Copperhead as found outside of West Columbia

Hard to tell on my phone but his head sure screams racer to me. Might be a little long though.

*Just watched again, Pretty sure it's a buttermilk racer. I'll wait for 12f mane or one of the gurus to confirm
