Quick stroll through the backyard yesterday afternoon revealed this poor guy. Found him too late unfortunately. I'm thinking he must have chased a good meal into the irrigation unit and got a little too "full" to sneak back out. Some good did come out of it though ... kiddos got a little lesson in beneficial vs not-so beneficial snakes. And I also got to finally explain why the large family of frogs living under the driveway had disappeared in recent months ... apparently the "summer heat" explanation wasn't correct, as my 5 y/o son reminded me. Kiddos never seem to forget anything you've told them that ends up being incorrect.

Blotched water snake I presume? And is it true they can be biters as well?

I'm surprised it took this long into to thread before it came up. That ranks number two of dumb myths about rattlesnakes, behind hogs making them not rattle.
