Angels select All-American infielder Gavin Grahovac 81st overall

One of Texas A&M’s all-time greats.

And he has earned this great moment.

On Saturday, Gavin Grahovac became the third Aggie to be taken in the 2026 MLB Draft when the Los Angeles Angels took the Texas A&M legend in the third round with the 81st overall pick.

Earlier in the day, Chris Hacopian was selected 11th overall by Washington, and Caden Sorrell went in the second round to the Chicago Cubs.

Entering this weekend’s draft, MLB.com listed the corner infielder as the No. 38 draft-eligible prospect. On a 20-80 scale, Grahovac was rated 50 overall, with his power (60) and arm (55) impressing scouts the most.

Of course, his best tool — leadership — cannot be quantified.

In the batter’s box and in the clubhouse, Grahovac led by example for the Maroon & White in 2026. Starting all 57 games for A&M as a junior, he hit .339 with a 1.151 OPS, clubbing 22 home runs and amassing 74 RBI. Fully healthy this spring, he joined Jace LaViolette as just the second Aggie to enjoy multiple 20-home run seasons, and his run total (76) and RBI numbers rank ninth and 10th on A&M’s single-season lists, respectively.

Grahovac was a first-team All-SEC pick, received the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and earned All-American third-team honors from the NCBWA in 2026.

As a rookie in 2024, the California kid hit a program freshman record 23 home runs en route to being the SEC’s Freshman of the Year during A&M’s run to the Men’s College World Series final.

Despite a shoulder injury that caused him to miss the final 50 games of his sophomore season, Grahovac’s mark on the Aggie program is undeniable, and his name will be sprinkled throughout the program’s leaderboards. In 130 games, he was a .313 hitter with 33 doubles, 47 home runs and 146 RBI, placing fourth and 12th in the final two categories.

His impact will be remembered well beyond his career statistics as he famously stayed in Maroon & White during the tumultuous 2024 offseason and helped reset the standard after 2025.

With a professional future officially on deck, Saturday further cements Grahovac’s place amongst the legends of Aggie baseball.
