Earley hires Barry Enright as A&M's pitching coach

Big-league hire.

Texas A&M head baseball coach Michael Earley is welcoming Barry Enright to his coaching staff in Aggieland.

The 40-year-old will serve as the Aggies’ new pitching coach.

A native of Stockton, Calif., and a Pepperdine product, Enright was most recently the Minor League pitching coordinator for the Athletics, a position he has held since Jan. 17, 2026.

The hire comes after Earley did not retain Jason Kelly, who was an initial hire for the Aggie skipper in June of 2024.

With this addition, there is still another assist coaching position to fill following Caleb Longley’s January resignation.

After retiring from professional baseball, Enright began his coaching career as the pitching coach for Arizona affiliate Hillsboro in 2019 while the Hops were in the Class A short-season Northwest League. After two seasons, he was elevated to the Major League staff to serve as the assistant pitching coach and minor league pitching coordinator, helping the Diamondbacks win the 2023 National League pennant.

Following Arizona’s October success, Ron Washington hired Enright to become the pitching coach of the Los Angeles Angels. After spending two seasons in Anaheim, he was not retained under new manager Kurt Suzuki, which led the Athletics to hire him as their pitching coordinator and director of pitching in their player development in January of 2026.

Additionally, Enright served as Great Britain’s pitching coach during the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

As a right-handed pitcher, he was a second-round selection by Arizona in the 2007 MLB Draft and made his Major League debut for the Diamondbacks on June 30, 2010. On July 24, Enright was traded to the Angels for cash considerations. Across four years in the big leagues (2010-13), he appeared in 31 games with 26 starts, building a 7-13 record with a 5.57 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 148.2 innings.

Enright retired from pitching after spending 2018 in the Mexican Baseball League and the minors with Arizona.

In addition to baseball, he also played golf at Pepperdine and spent time as a professional golfer.

At Texas A&M, Enright will be tasked with turning around a once-proud pitching tradition that has scuffled recently. In 2026, the Aggie staff possessed a 5.24 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP as they allowed 90 home runs in just 57 games. The club ERA has been below 4.30 just once in the last six seasons, but from 2015-20, the Aggies spent six straight years under 3.50.

Positive production on the pitcher’s mound would be a major step toward Earley & Co. possibly returning the program to prominence.
