Schlossnagle tops list of traitors after misleading A&M earlier this week

June 26, 2024

AUSTIN, Texas — Judas hanged himself.

Brutus fell on a sword.

Jim Schlossnagle had a press conference.

Unlike the other famous traitors, Schlossnagle on Wednesday wasn’t too contrite about betraying Texas A&M to become the Texas Longhorns baseball coach.

Oh, Schlossnagle did offer an apology to TexAgs reporter Richard Zane, who on Monday enquired about Schlossnagle’s future following the Aggies’ loss to Tennessee in the national championship.

Of course, you remember that heinous response.

It’ll go down in Aggie history.

“I think that’s pretty selfish of you to ask that question, to be honest with you. I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again. And that hasn’t changed in my mind.”
- Texas head coach Jim Schlossnagle

It may be A&M’s version of “Et tu, Brute?”

“I think that’s pretty selfish of you to ask that question, to be honest with you,” said Schlossnagle, who wasn’t honest about anything else. “I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again. And that hasn’t changed in my mind.”

Yeah, after intentionally misleading the Aggies, Schlossnagle merely changed his mind. That makes everything OK, right?

Technically, Schlossnagle did not lie. He merely implied he wasn’t leaving A&M. False implications don’t count as lies, right? Not in Austin, anyway.

Clad in a blue suit, wearing an orange necktie and standing in front of a Longhorn-logo splattered burnt-orange backdrop in the Frank Denius Family Hall of Fame, Schlossnagle insisted he wasn’t dishonest — not on purpose, anyway.

“I didn’t intentionally mislead (A&M),” Schlossnagle said. “It’s a very fair question for you to ask because that is what I said. In that moment, that’s exactly how I felt.”

He went on to compare his exit from A&M to his departure from TCU three years ago. He expressed love for A&M. He emphasized how he gave his all to A&M to the end.

All after giving A&M the finger.

Of course, the Aggies gave it back.

“If I had left Texas A&M for some other school in a different part of the country, the interesting text messages and messages that I got yesterday probably wouldn’t have happened,” Schlossnagle said. “I get it. You can’t ask for a fan base to support you and be passionate like the 12th Man always has been but really was this year.

“Our crowds were awesome every single game. You can’t ask for that like I did and our staff did, and then expect everyone to be OK with a coach leaving for its rival school. I get it. I get it.”

He’s gonna get it.

Jamie Maury, TexAgs
David Pierce was fired after eight years at Texas. In his three seasons leading the Aggies, Jim Schlossnagle was 3-1 vs. Pierce’s Longhorns.

Schlossnagle knows he’ll be a marked man when he returns to Blue Bell Park.

“It will be an experience for sure,” he said. “The midweek games we got to play this year? Awesome. The regional? Phenomenal. I can’t even imagine what a three-game SEC series will be like.

“I’m sure A&M is going to attract awesome coaches. There are great players there. The fan base, especially Section 203. I’m sure they will have a lot of really interesting things planned.”

Count on that.

Schlossnagle, now and forever, is a villain.

Indeed, having left A&M for Texas, he’s heretofore more despised than Lane Kiffin, Ken Starr, Dan Beebe, DeLoss Dodds and a couple of failed football coaches.

And perhaps detested even more than the other famous traitors.

In a lineup that includes Judas and Brutus, Schlossnagle is at the top of the order.

Loyal Longhorn here. Your outrage about Schlossnagle is completely justified. Personally, I don't want this lying POS on the 40 acres, but nobody asked me. He does not represent the values of the University of Texas, and, I reluctantly admit, those of Texas A&M.
We don't need your permission to be outraged at this POS. He is no different from your current and former AD's, former BB coach Beard, former President Powers, and pretty much all the sips I've known in the 40 years since I graduated. Maybe you're the exception, but this represents the so-called "values" of your university EXACTLY as I've known them to be.

Edit to add another sip "values" guy. Seriously, how do they claim this BS and keep a straight face?

The irony of the press conference where the Chairman, President, and AD discussed the values of tu… leadership, integrity, honesty, doing things the right way… all to introduce a man who failed to exhibit any of those values in making and announcing a major decision.

Leadership in Aggieland is based on serving others, where leadership on the 40 acres is self-serving. This will forever be the difference between the two universities.

OB, not sure if you are reading all these posts. I sometimes watch y'all on KBTX 3.2 in the morning when I work from home. I can tell you are a straight up good guy. If you did actually leave and drive up to Austin to try and call that SOB out, then here is a personal thanks from me as well! That's epic!

Wasn't he a traitor after leaving TCU after 19 years?

Well, let's see...

  • Did he recruit TCU players (current & future) to leave TCU?
  • Did he recruit TCU coaches to leave TCU?
  • Did he undermine TCU during postseason competition?
  • Did he claim hours before leaving TCU that he was there for life?
  • Did he claim that he gave up his family to be at TCU?

Don't forget how heated the rivalry with texas christian university has been since the state's establishment....

Did A&M Leadership have any clue or forethought to call Schloss prior to his meeting with CDC. "Jim we know they are going to come knocking at your door, we know you and CDC are best friends but let us know what we need to do to make you stay"

Just curious if that happened?

Now I'm ready to move on and focus on hiring a banger new coach.

Yea I've been thinking more and more about this. People keep saying, "Oh we don't care that he left, even if it's UT, it's HOW he left" but that's complete baloney. Of course you care he went to Texas. It's Texas. People already accusing him of causing his team to lose the championship because he was 'distracted' or 'didnt care'.

For Schlossnagle, he thought UT was a better job for him, plain and simple. He trusts CDC. How else was he supposed to do it? People keep saying how bad it was that he did it right after the loss. Transfer portal closes in a week. He would've completely screwed over both A&M and UT if he had waited. He couldn't waste any time, and to be honest, he probably didn't anticipate being the last team standing this season.

Also, Brauninger, Nuno, Liucci all said yesterday they've known this was possible for months from sources, and that they didn't want to say anything for fear of affecting the Aggies run. Well how is that different from Schlossnagle? I mean, you can say he lied to you, but TexAgs did the same thing by burying the story for their own personal motives. TexAgs acted like fans with a microphone, not real reporters, just saying.

Of course it stings. It's shocking. I'm probably going to make some folks mad but I'm not trying to.

Always wondered what Schloss was saying into his baseball cap during the National Anthem.

Now I know. In deference to Blazing Saddles

Sorry, horrible take. Has never happened in the history of sports. Why could they have not waited to announce Pierce's firing on Tuesday? And then Schloss could have accepted the job? You know the answer.

And I kind of understand what you are saying that there no other time to do it, but man, this guy and his partners in crime were recruiting for their new school while being paid by us.

And while we are playing for the Natty.

And sure, I want to make more money and have a better job. But not nearly as bad that I would do what the Texas coach did.

There is zero defense. At all.

Schloss lived in our neighborhood for a while and eventually moved out to the country. However, he'd regularly be seen in the neighborhood clubhouse. He handled this poorly…absolutely. However, Trev Alberts is getting an incredible pass here. He fired Schloss assistant in a budget cut drill and never told Schloss it was coming. Trev also has a BMOC personality….exact opposite of what you need working with big personality coaches. In fact, Mr. BMOC has been here 100 days and still has Nebraska plates on his truck and not an A&M sticker to be found. For Schloss, Alberts and most others, this is a job. They don't have a passion for the school like the fan base. Schloss said as much yesterday. BTW and no offense, but neither do most the other coaches at A&M. In the past ten years, I've seen three coaches that are really all-in and want to be Aggies (Sumlin, Robinson & Elko). Sumlin failed, Robinson left because he was emotional, and we don't yet how Elko will do). I will say this and hope he succeeds. I've never seen a coach go all-in on being an Aggie like Mike Elko. He's done everything right and I personally think he's going to be successful if we can apply just a little bit of patience to let him clean up the Jimbo mess. In conclusion, you get what you pay for. If you hire folks that are here as a job, it will likely end bad. It might end bad if somebody came here as a calling, but they won't leave by their own volition standing at a TU press conference 24 hours later. LOYALTY matters and Trev Alberts needs to figure out if he's all-in. BTW, Welsh too.

The guys who jumped in the portal may well have known this was coming.

It's ALL pro sports now. Has been coming for 40 years and pretty much here that last 20. NIL and the portal are the end of collegiate athletics. Note that I don't blame the players at all, when they see billion dollar tv contracts, half a billion stadia, 10 million dollar coaches, why on earth wouldn't they want a piece.

We've (all big time collegiate fans) have brought it upon ourselves by elevating winning for your school to winning at any cost.

The stupid and shortsighted thing was HOW he did this, and how much damage he's done to himself.

I know this is naive in the cutthroat world of college athletics, but my god what a missed opportunity for him and for longhorn baseball to help themselves.

Imagine this scenario...

He lets the A&M players have their moment, celebrate their accomplishments, and then a week later he says

"I've decided that it's in my best interests to rejoin my best friend Chris Del Conte and rebuild the Texas baseball program. I've been thinking about this for a while due to staff and administration changes at Texas A&M, but I wanted to wait out of respect and considerations for my current players and what they were accomplishing this season.

I really enjoyed Texas A&M, the 12th Man, and College Station (blahblahblah fake platitudes etc) but I feel like The University of Texas and Austin are just a better fit for me and my career going forward.

Additionally, out of respect for Texas A&M and the players there, I will not be recruiting any of them as transfers for the next year. If they decide to reach out after next season, then we can have conversations."

HE WOULD HAVE LOOKED LIKE THE MOST AUTHENTIC AND ETHICAL COACH IN SPORTS.

The media and talking heads would have sung his praises to the rooftops.

Parents would have lined up to talk to him, and players would have concrete proof how much he cares about them. "He sacrificed his own interests for ours."

It would have been recruiting gold forever, and set him for life after coaching if he wanted.

He could have had his pick of hotshot young coaches dying to work with him forever.

Yes, I know the portal closes July 1st, except players at A&M get 30 days after a coaching change.
So do players at Texas and theirs is open now.

Yes, I understand this would handicap Texas a little bit for the *immediate* year in incoming recruiting and transfers, but they were still a playoff team with a decent roster. Current Texas players would stay on their roster, or they could transfer of their own volition since their coach has already been fired.

Wait one week and you are the poster child for doing things right, and have the most effective recruiting pitch forever.

They of course chose to be the poster child OF the corrupt and disgusting world of college athletics. When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

Jim Scholassnagle is the ultimate traitor. This is not an ordinary move of a coach leaving for another school. When Jim Scholssnagle got furious at TexAgs reporter Richard Zang and insisted on that Texas A&M is his last job, he sounded sincere. He could have said, "No comments or I am not discussing the future because I am enjoying this incredible season." Even worse, he and his entire staff were recruiting for Texas, while being paid to coach at Texas A&M. That's why this is not an ordinary move of a coach leaving for another school.

After we defeated Tennessee 9-5 in Game 1 and led 1-0 through at the end of the 6th inning, we were just 9 outs away from sweeping Tennessee 2-0 to win our first ever CWS series title. Instead, Tennessee outscored us by a combined 10-1 across the next 10 innings (4-0 in the last 3 innings of Game 2 and 6-1 in the first 7 innings of Game 3) before we scored 2 runs in the 8th and 2 more runs in the 9th inning to make the final score of 6-5 much more respectable. Jim Schlossnagle and his entire staff were probably distracted with the upcoming Texas job and did not seem to care about finishing the task at hand.

Nice guys may finish last, but we still need to go after both winning and character. Good, high character guys aren't necessarily the same as nice guys. We need to fight back with everything we have. Hopefully, we will win at least 2 out of 3 games against Jim Schlossnagle and the Texas longhorns in their return to Olsen Field.

A source is telling me that the two Aggie hecklers at the Florida game were actually Texas spies apart of a broader conspiracy to tarnish Texas A&M's reputation on their biggest stage and facilitate the recruitment of Texas A&M players to Texas

Bingo.

This was coordinated and Coach Almost was in on it. Pierce was fired the day their season ended. But tu is going to wait until the day of Game 3 to announce it? And contracts ready to go for the assistant coaches? Time frame just doesn't line up.

And I'm not saying Almost threw the series. But I don't believe for a second he was trying all that hard to win it. I don't think he even expected to be there.
