Another Game 1, another win.... Definitely have made a habit of that. Really good quality of a team, just makes life so much easier for each series. More margin for error in games 2 & 3.... This was a crucial win. Would've been tough to stomach if we hadn't come back... Needed it and we had guys step up. Great, gritty performance and set up now to win another conference series.
Thought Dettmer's stuff was pretty solid especially early on. Started making some mistakes though and they put some good swings on them. Location was just a bit off. He's in a bit of a lull these last two starts, he'll be fine. Long season & these things happen... The bases loaded no out situation he got out of was huge. Those things matter so much when it ends up being a one run game. Menefee was alright, did make a couple mistakes over the heart of the plate... Give Mississippi St. credit, they have power and didn't miss those pitches. The Dallas AB was OK, threw some good offspeed, liked the action on those but just spiked a couple. Great job by Johnston getting a tough hitter for the final out.
Offense battled in this one. Werner's first two AB's were really good... Next step for him probably is squaring up the ball to the opposite field. Once that starts he'll be a force, he's already shown major pull side pop... He was big for us getting the 4 run lead and also had a really nice tag on the caught stealing of Cumbest. Moss and Bost with really nice swings in the first. Kaler had great ABs, walk was huge leading off the 7th and two hard hit balls. Claunch with the super clutch double, he's so good and experienced, love having him up in a spot like that. We were really patient that inning and grinded... Thompson with the rocket double in his AB and had the great catch in the 9th.
Showed some guts in this one which this team has continued to do... A win could've really fired up Miss St. and we were able to steal the momentum now going into today. Just a gritty effort and now we're set up for another series win which would be critical going down the stretch towards the postseason. This team finds ways to win and they battle... Awesome to see. Rest of the series should be fun to watch.
