I'm still waiting for the PCR results from the test that I took on Monday, but a rapid test unofficially confirmed what I already knew. I've felt weird since last Friday.

Symptoms are mild and are more annoying than anything else. This feels like a mild cold that I've had dozens of times before. Oh well. FYI, I received my Moderna vaccine doses this past Spring (March-April).

Was going to say the same thing. WBT finds every thread about covid and asks why the person got tested? Such a weird obsession.

Probably because the high rate of unnecessary testing is driving fear and propaganda. We could freak out the world every flu season with the number of infections if we tested everyone with the sniffles.

The only people that gained anything by OP getting tested are the ones making money off the tests and pandemic. It would be better if testing was only done if symptoms are bad enough to need medicine, so they can diagnose it and give the right medicine.

Congrats on your improved immunity, OP.

Also, since you took two tests won't they both be reported as positive tests? That's also increasing the "case" count, if so.

Yea there is just no way they can deconflict that. We just don't have the technology

I got tested because I was unusually exhausted this past weekend, and my wife and older son had cold-like symptoms. Since we were due to be around a lot of family in the coming days, we didn't want to unnecessarily infect people, including my wife's 95-yr old grandfather. It turns out that we made a good choice.

I just don't understand the "why did you get tested/you're driving fear" mindset.

I will never understand the impetus to belittle/disparage others for wanting to confirm whether or not they have a cold or Covid, especially in advance of arguably the biggest time of year to spend with family.

Discontent with politics and public policy shouldn't be allowed to affect the way we interact as individuals. But maybe that's an old fashioned idea these days.

Really seems like it. Every post of someone saying they tested positive you can find him asking why they got tested.

I agree, especially in this case (present symptoms) but both can be true...

1) people testing because they have symptoms
2) too many people testing with zero symptoms as part of some sort of protocol

Just so we're all clear…if you had tested negative, would you have continued with plans to be around family despite feeling bad?

This is why I'm constantly curious about the wave of testing right now. Just left Christmas with my folks and 5 out of the 8 people there had a cough/congestion/sinus issues and it was never even a thought to miss spending time together if someone was positive.

So if you were deathly ill why would you consider going and if you had no symptoms it seems like everyone has those right now.

I've been working quite a lot as of late, so exhaustion and normal seasonal allergies are not unusual to me. I would have taken Allegra and gone on about things as usual. The warm/cool weather changes we've had here as of late always jacks with my sinuses, too. None of those issues are communicable and nothing that Allegra, Excedrin, and a nap couldn't fix for me, just as they have dozens of times before.

That's what makes this variant different. I would've infected a bunch of people without thinking that anything was unusual.

Thanks for answering. To recap, you would have masked the symptoms and went about your day without knowing what was actually making you feel bad, and because it wasn't COVID, you wouldn't have thought twice about possibly infecting others.

I'm really not sure what you're trying to insinuate.

As I mentioned, none of my issues were/are normally communicable. I only know that I have Covid because I got tested. In no way would I have thought that I'd be infecting others by having a sinus headache; you don't pass those onto others. It turns out that I had something else and I'm glad that I knew it ahead of time.

What I'm saying is it's only COVID that is stopping you. If it was negative, you would have chalked it up to an assumption and gone while not giving a second thought about what you had or whether or not you could have infected someone else.

Pretty much, I guess. I haven't had any of the prototypical Covid symptoms that are prevalent in prior variants. I'm also fully vaccinated, but omicron is bypassing those.

It would probably be very difficult for our government to come up with a way to filter out repeat tests of the same infected individual with sufficient reliability. If the tests are coming from the same source then that source could send only one result, but if an infected individual is tested at multiple locations that are independently sending in the results, with millions of tests being done per day, there is a high probability that both tests end up counted.

You have way too much faith in government.

The specific case you're response was in regard to was about one individual getting a rapid and a PCR from the same place and at the same time. That's standard operating procedure so I think they can handle that, and before the government gets involved.

Yes one person going to multiple places would cause a problem…

Edit: I guess it's not clear from the OP what he did, my mistake

You sure?

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that of the 43 cases attributed to Omicron variant, 34 people had been fully vaccinated.

That's what I'm saying, or at least meant to say. Omicron is affecting the vaccinated. Oh well, I guess there's no need for me to get that booster; not any time soon, at least.

There were 7 of us getting monoclonal antibodies today in our little pod. 1 wasn't vaccinated at all, I didn't have my booster, the other 5 had all three shots. Omicron don't care.

I wouldn't have tested either. Only reason to test would be if I knew I'd have a significant amount of time with a very immune compromised Individual which I won't. I'd have continued on as if nothing was happening. I'm vaccinated so I'll be fine and honestly that's about all we should do going forward. My biggest litmus test is gym/training performance. If I'm feeling high levels of fatigue which I do my best to be aware of and account for, I'll slow down. If not, it's game on for life. Get the vaccine and you'll be fine. It works. Worst thing is you'll get a little sick.
