Took the shot yesterday about 7 AM.

Up all night with a fever that won't break below 101 even with Tylenol. Body aches all over, massive headache, and now starts the projectile vomiting. Was expecting to feel like crap after feeling cruddy for a day following second dose, but this is at another level. Not expecting the nausea.

Just a PSA to plan to take a day off if necessary after getting the booster.

I had such a bad reaction to the 2nd Pfizer shot I'm not planning on getting a booster.

How long since dose 2 for you?

If anything like the first doses, it should hopefully wear off by hour 36, so I hope you'll at least sleep well tonight

I got the flu shot last week and will probably wait at least a month as I am not convinced getting both in close proximity is a great idea. Only had some minor soreness with flu shot this year.

I had the nausea, fever, and chills after my booster as well. Hang in there you should be feeling better by later today.

I guess the good news is they didn't give you placebo or an improperly stored vaccine.

Hope you feel better soon! Moderna #2 kicked my butt as well for about a day.

What were your antibody levels before taking the booster?

Boy, I really want to get that shot when your reaction is worse than my symptoms were with covid.

Just a few more months until you'll need your next booster.

Sounds WAYYYY worse than how I felt during COVID. I just couldn't smell and my back kind of hurt.

Glad you had a mild case. Do you ever consider other people's experiences may be different than yours?

Absolutely. I had fairly significant symptoms when I had covid. However, just the seeing his side effects pushes me to never get a shot that could possibly do that to me (vomiting, very high fever)

Did you ever consider there are WAYYY more mild cases of COVID than serious ones?

My dad got the booster and flu shot the other day. Only symptom was a sore arm. Same with his first two though.

Of course. I also consider that's common with almost every illness/virus out there, and because of that, a one size fits all approach to treating it is not the best avenue to take.

I don't think anyone asked you either, so...

People getting the boosters right now are those that are in the most susceptible groups. My wife's doctor has advised her to get hers and we're trying to figure out when to schedule it. She doesn't WANT to get the booster by any means, but due to some autoimmune issues, she knows she needs to.

I appreciate those that have been sharing their experiences with the booster.

I don't think anyone appreciates your input here. Way to go with your high functioning immune system. Glad you have at least one "achievement" to brag about.

All I said is that doesn't make me want to get a shot based on his reaction and many others I know. I'm not bragging about my immune or anything else. If you want to get a shot so be it. I respect their decision.

Is there an upper limit on the at-risk folks that the booster is recommended for?

What I mean is my grandmother is in her mid 90s and pretty frail at this point. I'm glad she got vaccinated in the first place because COVID would have been brutal, but if experiences like the OP's are common it seems she may struggle too much with a booster, too.

I'm not a Dr but from what I've seen most people that old won't have nearly the immune response you are seeing in this thread. If she didn't have major side effects with the first 2 doses she is unlikely to have them after the booster.

I was in a similar situation. I knew that the booster was going to kick my butt because the first 2 doses did. I wasn't looking forward to it but after an organ transplant and having a suppressed immune system it wasn't really an option not to get it.

Tell her to schedule a day or 2 off and plan on resting.

So, is the Moderna booster a special formula or just a 3rd jab of the normal vaccine?

There isn't a Moderna booster yet. Pfizer is the only one, for now. Will change soon.

Looks like the booster for Moderna is going to be a half dose of the original.

Feel better now, nausea is gone. Still low-grade fever but functional. Don't want to discourage anyone from taking, just take it and plan to take the next day off.

I got the booster because I have a high-risk category and I also work in a hospital. I've seen people my age and weight turn blue right in front of me.

If you have any sort of high risk category, such as overweight, diabetes, heart disease, smoker, lung issues, high blood pressure, or are older than 50, it's really a good idea to get vaccinated. These are the people we are seeing in the hospital.

To add: Weight is pretty much the biggest factor with Delta!!! If your BMI is approaching 30 or over you are at a much higher risk for needing hospitalization. We've had several people under the age of 40 die during this wave, almost all of them were obese and unvaccinated. The vaccines will largely prevent you from needing to go to the hospital.

Talk to your doctor about your risk categories. What they discovered in Israel was the Pfizer vaccines do wane over time but people in high risk categories who got booster shot had a hospitalization rate close to zero.
