Maybe Covid doesn't affect children, but all the Child ICU beds in North Texas are taken, so we're going to try to reduce the risk as best we can.

They are full every single winter. I have worked my ass off for years to make beds when there weren't any. Stop using this as a reason to force restrictions on people.
Everyone I know has been sick in the last month thanks to our "immunity deficit".

We are all catching colds that we would have been catching for the last two years all at once.

It is kind of unavoidable when you open back up.
THat's not how it works
Then how does it work?

I've been swamped with RSV, Parainfluenza, HMV, Coxsackie for the last two months especially in the 1-4 year old group. This is VERY unusual for summer, never seen it in 20 years of practice in Texas.

I saw a statistic yesterday that showed that more kids below 12 have died from RSV during the pandemic than covid. Yet for some reason there's a mass panic about kids and the delta variant all of a sudden. What's up with that?
1) RSV doesn't kill voting age people
2) People won't give up their freedoms for RSV because its well understood, so the media isn't talking about it 24/7.

Correlation does not equal causation.

What is an "immunity deficit"?
It's what happens the first year you send your kids to either daycare or kindergarten.

Bug after bug after bug after bug until their wimpy immune system beefs up.

For many bugs, that immunity is not permanent. Getting stuck at home for 2 years straight will do the same thing to adults. But, it is especially bad in kids.

I keep thinking back to my kids' early day care years and the visual that keeps popping up is the crusty eye infections and amount of stomach flu that is going to rack those kids who have been bunkered up for 2 years.

Kids across the street haven't been within 10 feet of another kid since March of 2020 gonna be an epic cycle of kiddo sickness for that house once (if ) they go back.

Of course they wear disposable gloves to take out the trash and have for the10 years they've lived across the street from me.

My kids' school in Round Rock has ~600 of the 900 total enrollment signed up for virtual apparently. Its nuts.

I would hope people's kids aren't so soft as to think that wearing a mask is "destroying" their life.

Well, kids under 5, especially those that aren't feral and starving, tend to be soft. It's kind of a nature thing.
My 4-year-old is soft AF.

It's a great camp. I mean, you kind of need to be whitey in an Escalade to fit in, cause you know that's what Jesus drove, but the kids seem to have a great time.

Fun story- I dated a counselor from pine cove back when I was a student. I was enjoying a summer in Quantico courtsey of the usmc and kept getting letters from bunny hop. She couldn't put her name because of the camp culture/rules.

Let's just say the drill instructor had some fun with it

If it's the OG Pine Cove in Palestine, you definitely don't fit in if you're not from Highland Park. They didn't have the Flatonia/Columbus one back in the day for us Houston suburb kids, but I still loved the camp! Hope everyone has a speedy recovery and/or no one else gets sick!

I remember stomach bug years.

With my oldest daughter, when she came home with a stomach bug, I had like a 25% chance of getting it.

My youngest? 100% chance. By the third bout, I was telling my boss ahead of time: uh youngest daughter brought home a stomach bug. Ok, Buster, make sure you finish up all your stuff at a good stopping place before you leave each day.

This was Columbus. I'd like to see the itemized bill for $1200. Must read like:
--$50 - room and board for 61 lb girl with some Gaelic name
--$75 - salary for starving college counselor who had too much enthusiasm to work at Chick Fila.
--$1075 - 6 day hall pass for mom and dad to visit every microbrewery in tri-county area

Yeah after the first couple of bouts my wife and I would split up in the vain attempt to both not be puking at the same time. Thankful those years are largely behind us.

Based on what I've seen the last 2 summers taking our oldest to Pine Cove near Columbus you need a King Ranch F250, Land Cruiser (or the Lexus version), or a Range Rover to fit in.

Yep, and a few Suburbans, Yukons, and Expeditions mixed in. Saw one family, obviously struggling under the weight of the pandemic, roll up in an Armada. Might as well have been the kid in the Winger shirt from Beavis and Butt-Head. As for me, I just brought my work van. They were probably looking at me like Davey Crockett at the Alamo, wondering who ordered concrete.

Then there's the families who have like 9 kids and spend a year's worth of tuition at A&M to send 5 kids at a time to PC rolling in a stripped down Sprinter van with 8 rows of seats.

A pandemic with an insanely low amount of deaths used as a nefarious tool.

You understand we are in the middle of a surge right now that hasn't even peaked in terms of daily cases or hospitalizations and the deaths are already rising despite improvement in treatment options. You will see a steady rise of deaths over the next few weeks/month as we have seen with previous surges.

You can determine if your statement is dramatized:

According to the CDC for ages 0-49, from Jan 2020 to July 2021, there have been 29,249 covid deaths nation-wide. That's .00009% of the total population.

To include 50-64 year olds the number goes to 126,426 or .0004% of the US.

For ages 0-17 there's been 349 deaths over the same period.

Not really sure what your point is here. Are you implying this isn't a real pandemic cause the mortality isn't high enough in the US? Think you can determine if that is a oversimplification.

Seem to ignore hospitalizations, medical expenses (especially if admitted which can be sometimes ~50k-100k depending on age/insurance status, prolonged respiratory symptoms if you do recover, and other comorbidities that arise during COVID. And now we are in the middle of a surge with a variant that is twice as transmissible as original.

Thankfully a lot of our elderly population are vaccinated and won't progress to severe illness. Will help your mortality rates as well.

What are the hospitalization numbers of those who are not obese and under the age of 65?

How long do you want to ignore this user?

Because a lot of people overestimate the risk for young healthy people
mhoff555AG
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
But that's not what we are talking about.
With your point, I agree that young healthy adults are at very low risk of serious illness however the issue is that a lot young adults aren't, especially regarding obesity. Anecdotally and recent data on delta hospitalization has show a higher percentage of people hospitalized younger than 40 that are unvaccinated than previously. Multiple variables to this, including vaccination percentage in these age groups and how contagious delta is. However, vast majority of these young patients are obese or have other medical issues but it gets a headline that grabs attention. Then people form opinions based on what is reported from media
