I'm also eager to see my best draw because I'm just getting over my infection. Tested positive last Saturday and it hit pretty hard tbh. Was tied up in bed for several days and missed work Mon/Tuesday. Nothing like a mild cold. Hit my wife pretty hard too, we were both vaxxed no boosters though.

Rooting hard for a damn high N protein

I think you should expect a delay in your antibodies going up measurably.

How long of a delay? Had it 3 weeks back and due for my second blood draw. How long should I wait?
Dubi is banned so i'm answering for her.

She was asymptomatic, but suspect it was 3 weeks prior to last Cares test. When you are allergic to Cedar, it is hard to know when you are sick because you feel bad for weeks.

She got a bit snarky on the Aggieland daily covid thread. Something something about if you don't want to be in the ICU, you should have considered a vaccine.

If you knew her you would realize that was low key for her.

Just finished my last blood draw yesterday with the CARES study. 33, M, 200lbs.. Could stand to be more active and loose 20lbs or so. I would say I'm pretty healthy. I use to be considered Obese and now I'm just overweight.

First CARES blood draw on 8/26/21. NEGATIVE on both proteins.

Received the 1st Moderna dose 4 days later on 8/30/21

Got the second CARES blood draw on 11/16/21. Tested POSITIVE for S Protein and NEGATIVE for N.

Contracted COVID 4 days after the second CARES blood draw on 11/20/21. Very mild symptoms. Wouldn't have known it was COVID if it wasn't for the loss of sense. Only ran a fever for 24 hrs, had some mild congestion. No cough or fatigue.

Did the last CARES blood draw yesterday, 2/7/22. After 1 dose of Moderna and 1 bout with COVID both proteins came back POSITIVE.

I certainly didn't plan to have the stair stepping results but it is encouraging to see the vaccine (albeit 1 dose) and my immune system working hard to create antibodies.

Did my second test this week. Had Covid in March. No vaccine.
First test in August. Second this week.

N went down, but S went up.

Third test this week. Had Covid March 2021. Still no vaccine. What do I make of these changes. Maybe I had Covid again?

Second Pfizer shot 8/26/21

Did my third blood draw last Monday 2/7

Natural antibodies negative

Vaccine antibodies 997

My mom, who I was around prior to knowing, had Covid over NYE

My wife had it 2 weeks later

Somehow I managed to never get apparently

Pfizer second shot April 6

42yr old
Spike protein: 726
S: Negative.

After seeing some with over 2k I'm not sure if that is good or not?

Second draw was yesterday:
Spike: 814
N: negative

Is it usual for the second draw to be higher in Spike?

Third draw yesterday:

N:Positive. I guess I had covid recently even though 2 tests were negative that week
N Protein: 78.4
S: >2500

51 year old male

Infected: June 2020

No shots

Daughters infected in August 2021

Wife infected in December 2021

Took my third Texas Cares antibody test yesterday...appears I did not get infected again when my family did in August and December. Antibodies are waning at a slow rate. Levels not much less than they were 6 months ago at first antibody test.

20 months since infected.

Possible explanations exist that are more likely include:
1) you had another type of infection (bacterial, viral, fungal) that resulted in a pro inflammatory event that can raise antibody levels nospefically
2) the differences in antibody levels are small and may be within the inherent variability of the assay

Older individuals tend to show more rapid decay rates in antibody levels
Also, individual variation exists within populations and may be at play

Thanks. The part that really caught my eye was the S went from 83 -> 102 -> >2500. That's a big change.

Wait, are you saying that the TX Cares spike protein lab result can be affected by something besides a Covid infection or vaccine?? Wouldn't this invalidate the entire study (or any study evaluating the response to a Covid infection or vaccine)?

agreed, especially because the time period between draw #2 and #3 was during a time period that so many in the country got covid. and a strain of covid that largely bypassed previous immunity as far as infection is concerned.

plus i haven't updated it recently, but from my last look at everyone's data posted here in November here is the breakdown of who and how many had S-Protein levels >2500

  • 5 - Both infection and fully vaccinated
  • 5 - Moderna vaccine, no known infection
  • 2 - infection only.

i haven't updated the spreadsheet yet, but looking at how for most the booster is pushing levels to >2500, it would seem the most likely scenario for that large of an increase would be an omicron infection that acted as a booster. sure there are other possibilities, and i'm no doctor, but due to the timing that explanation seems the simplest/most likely.

I got my third test last week, so I'll give my final update for those collecting data:

Here are my numbers:

Pfizer dose #1 - 3/4/21
Pfizer dose #2 - 3/25/21

First Antibody Test - 08/23/2021
S - 216
N - 0

Pfizer Booster - 10/25/2021

Second Antibody Test - 11/18/2021
S - >2500
N - 0

Third Antibody Test - 02/09/2022
S - >2500
N - 24.9

I had a *very* mild case of Covid (confirmed with a home test) starting 1/1/22. It only lasted two or three days.

If I’m posting, it’s actually Mrs GeographyAg.

Just got my final results today as well here is my summary

  • 1/18/21 - first moderna shot
  • 2/20/21 - second Moderna shot (no known history of infection)
  • 8/4/21 - N Protein: 0 , S Protein: 2247
  • 11/8/21 - N Protein:0 , S Protein: 1363
  • 12/7/21 - moderna booster
  • 2/15/21 - N protein: 0, S Protein: >2500

our house had several colds over the christmas holiday season and even though they all tested negative for covid on home tests, i felt sure that due to the covid prevalence, at least one of them had to have been mild covid and the tests were just wrong, but my antibodies seem to disagree with that assessment.

Third rest results.

Had COVID December 2020. Only symptoms were altered taste and smell for a week.

No vaccines.

Kind of shocked I did not get it again with the Omicron wave. Everyone around me was sick.

Still "out of range" for S protein over 2 years after having COVID. Very little drop off there, but was always low but out of range. Probably due to my symptoms being extremely minor/non existent.

So this makes no sense to me. I did my 3rd draw yesterday and antibodies levels actually dropped from 189 to 131 despite having the booster in January.

Has anyone seen anything similar? It's like the booster did nothing.

I'm really trying to wrap my head around how I dropped from 2nd to 3rd draw with the Moderna booster between the two.....

Multiple possibilities. It is well established that there is always a chance a person won't respond to vaccine for God knows why. Another possibility is a mishandled vaccine during storage or shipping. MRNA vaccines are very temperature sensitive so you may have been given a denatured vaccine. There is always the possibility of a lab screw up as well. If a lab doesn't make sense I was taught to repeat it before figuring it out.

Just finished up my third test. Not too much change in the S number, still haven't caught the actual virus yet. I live alone and I am fairly careful in large crowds and take some of the suggested vitamins. Started the pandemic with low D and now in the normal range according to blood work.

one dose J&J in early April 2021, no booster

Draw 1:9/9/2021: N- negative, S positive 694

Draw 2: 11/30/2021: N -negative, S positive 928

Draw 3: 2/21/22: N-negative, S positive 759

The numbers seem fairly stable. Even though this draw was down from the one in November still higher than September.
If you listen to the news the effectiveness drops quickly, which is why someone would need a booster. I had been debating on getting another J&J as a booster. (IMHO the J&J probably should have been a 2 shot dose but was effective enough as a one shot.) Just hadn't gotten to it as of early Feb so I knew the next draw was coming so wanted to see what it was first.

I did read one article talking about the J&J possibly having a longer lasting effect than the mRNA. The Moderna causes such a high response that it will take a long time to drop down below the upper level of testing. Some people who have posted seem the Pfizer doesn't have as long of a lasting reaction.

Has anyone here asked Texas Cares if they are continuing the study? I think it would be interesting to see how the antibody numbers progress a little over a year vs just 6 months. If I am starting to trend down to just plateau.

They aren't continuing the study. But you can have an antibody test at LabCorp. Different level of detail but not expensive.
