this is the sum of all fears
Cone, are you in Bellaire/Meyerland? What are you planning to do? I'm seriously thinking about moving everything I can upstairs. Wood and sheetrock can be fixed.
I'm in Maplewood. Our house has never flooded, nor has any around it. Water has gotten halfway up the lawn before. Don't have an upstairs, and not really sure what I could even put in the attic. Other than furniture, we don't really have anything low enough to get wet.
Then you guys are lucky. We are in Bellaire and the water was lapping our front door during the Memorial Day Flood and got in some houses around us. Obviously, we aren't the folks with the $1MM+ homes that are 5' up in the air.
I have sandbags for the doors. Going to put stuff upstairs that I can, the rest on cans/blocks. If it gets up over that, oh well.
Oh, I'm still starting to freak out a bit. And I'm sure my wife will be a lot more freaked out than me. Didn't mean to sound lucky, more like unsure of even where/how to start. I probably hit the post button too soon. I have some blocks that I may try to raise some things up, but other than that, I don't know.
I should add we've only been in the house since February, but I know the history of it well as we bought it from some family friends and my parents live across the street and down a few houses.
