I know it is just as irrational as freaking out over a storm, but I find it easy to downplay all of the hype each time there is a named storm. Of course, this one is on track to exceed initial expectations in the intensification department, so there is that.

I was in meyerland for the Memorial and Tax day floods. I would do exactly that if you can. Worst case you get a workout and no flood damage. But even the more reasonable weather sources are saying this is going to be quite bad.

i'm moving everything i can of value upstairs that's above 1-2 feet from the ground. we didn't get water in the memorial storm, but the previous owners got water in Allison. the couch is getting put on blocks/bricks. throwing up the deuce on the master bedroom.

i fully expect to get water if it's anything close to Allison in duration/intensity

i thought Memorial Day was a good stress test, but this is just going to be so long in duration it's impossible to game out what's really going to happen. i bought some temporary sandbags but i can't see those being useful for as long as we are going to get deluged.

I'm in Maplewood. Our house has never flooded, nor has any around it. Water has gotten halfway up the lawn before. Don't have an upstairs, and not really sure what I could even put in the attic. Other than furniture, we don't really have anything low enough to get wet.

Oh, I'm still starting to freak out a bit. And I'm sure my wife will be a lot more freaked out than me. Didn't mean to sound lucky, more like unsure of even where/how to start. I probably hit the post button too soon. I have some blocks that I may try to raise some things up, but other than that, I don't know.

I should add we've only been in the house since February, but I know the history of it well as we bought it from some family friends and my parents live across the street and down a few houses.

Yep. Walmart was raided last night. Saw the psychos loading up their trucks with as many water jugs as they could fit in a cart. So dumb. I just needed some basics for the weekend as well. Water section was completely void except for 4 one-liter bottles of Evian.

Then got an 18-yr scotch to ride out the storm with. Total Wine & More still had lots of bottled water left.

Yeah, I fought the crowds and got the last of what we needed at lunch today. Got home and realized we're going to need diapers for the kiddos.
I'm not fighting the crowds after work today. Planning on going about 10:00 tonight.

Apparently I bought soup that needs to be mixed with milk, so **** me I have to go back today.

I normally I am too but they keep saying it will hit land then skirt the coast towards LA very slowly which means lots of rain and Houston isn't exactly the city with the best drainage.


Time to get scuba gear and get ready to loot cars and 18-wheelers underwater on 59.

Off the top of my head I think it was 10-12" is 6 hours or so for Memorial Day. Something like that. Best case scenario is the rain is spread out over 4 days so that the bayous and drainage can keep up. Not overly hopeful but not panicked either. From what I've read, it's impossible to predict where these bands will drop the most rain so you just have to prepare for the worst.

In Bellaire/Meyerland, I believe we got about 11" in 6 hours or so. It was crazy.

I'm hoping it's not too much worse than the Tax Day flood because the water on Cypresswood came pretty close to overtopping onto my street.

With as much soil as we have replaced with concrete in the last 5 years or so...nevermind...happy thoughts happy thoughts...
