Two edits on an insult post and we're one scrimmage into the '27 season? Nice. Going to make a presence in Brazos County this year? Surely you won't miss much in that cave dwelling you live in.

Observations from todays game and let me preface with that this is 100% a scrimmage setting:

Freshman:
The excitement behind this incoming class is anticipated and I can at the very least see flashes of why.

Rohrlich, Spencer,
and Perry are super fast: Perry esp is like KP fast. This whole team is really fast aside from our big swingers, so I see a lot of pinch running opportunities going to these girls and Groce. Spencer flashed a good glove in the infield today, I'm sure we'll see them all a lot more in the fall games.

Side note: Hailey Golden was at the game high fiving and rooting on her teammates. Honestly, with seeing the speed on the roster, I'm sure she saw her chances of playing this season minimal. Class act, wish her all the best!

T. Hampton played 3B and had some good plays defensively. Think there are some jitters there and I'm sure she'll gain confidence with the more she plays. She absolutely crushed a HR to left center and that is something to be excited about! Of course, it's early and the competition will get better, but she's def a bat that will fill a need for a PH or an extra base hit threat. Excited to see what she can do!

Darby Burnett wow! Tall girl, power pitchers frame! Great velo in the high 60s. She has an offspeed pitch that is give or take 10 mph less than her fastball. Pitches move a lot and she did a great job keeping hitters off balance. Threw some impressive strikes and made a few hitters look silly with offspeed pitches. Exciting! But again, def want to see more of her.

Sophmores:
Groce is quick and aggressive on the base paths, I'm sure it's by design. Will need her to be a smart baserunner and if I'm not mistaken almost got a good catch in the OF, but needs to keep the ball in front of her. Same with Frankie, but can't state enough their being aggressive for a reason.

Sauni 100% the heart and soul of the team. She was loud and energetic! She played some 1B and looked comfy there. I noticed on socials she was flashing a 1B mitt, so I think that is a trend we'll see into the season. Had some decent ABs and made some good contact. We'll need her to protect Mya in the order this season.

Juniors:
AK, KK, Frankie, Allen, and Mathis all look fast and as advertised. There was some good contact and hits by this group. AK played catcher for a few, then was replaced by Miller. Think we have at least two bonafide catchers that we didn't quite have last year.

Seniors:
Got to see Scout Lovell swing the bat! She had an impressive hit to show. Wonder if we see her swing more this season. She is so dang fast!

Maddox McKee is what you want to see from a leadoff hitter. Quick, good contact, and smart baserunner. Think she adds a lot to our offense this season! She played CF and Mathis was in LF. Think our OF is a bit better. Gonna need to make some plays in RF, whoever we play there. Will be something to watch!

Mya P looks like an All-American and I don't think she's really slowed down since May. I know she's played some ball with international teams and she hit a HR that looked like a sky high pop up opposite field. She's crazy strong and I hope she has the best season yet!

Pitching:
Sidne Peters she looked comfy and velo touched 68 a few times. She gave up one HR early on, which you don't want to see, but she responded by striking out the next four batters. Think she's working on some things but looked solid overall. We'll need her and Syd L. to make some upperclassman strides!

Maddie Azua think she had some nerves to start off, but once she settled in. She made some impressive throws. Gave up a run I think thanks to a fielding error and a couple of hits. But she keeps hitters off balance with some pitch speed differential. I think her and Burnett being able to keep hitters uncomfortable will keep us in some games that we couldn't stay in last season. But I can't say it enough, it's early!

Thanks for the notes! We made all of last fall's scrimmages but have a lot of conflicts this year (including Aggie VB) so will rely on other folks for updates.

We have three in 2027 class, two have a shot at being something truly special. A shot is all you have coming out of high school, it's really tough to know even if they have "the stuff".

There were two top pitchers with identical portal scores this year. We got one of them, after she also visited tu. The other went to Tech.

Brielle Gardiner will be our stud of the future. Just wish she was a year earlier but she will be dominate for us for four years.

Didn't see LESSENTINE at the scrimmage. Don't know why. Maybe in class? I mean they are college kids! I thought Aubrey Moore was outstanding. Played third and first. I predict that she will be our breakout freshman.

Not quite. Saw her consistently in 66-68. Given the scrimmage setting, think they're working on pitches and positions. Peter's hung one and gave up a 2-run homer. Then she proceeded to strike out the next four batters. So you like to see that kind of response. Feel like that happened to Peters and Lessentine a lot last szn!

Yes. That was our biggest issue in the cirle last year. The long ball plagued us all season.

Right now SA is only considering the rankings of the top 2 recruits for each team. They will expand it to three, I am curious if we change position. All three of our commits are top5 nationally at their position including the #1 catcher.

Either way - we have top10 recruiting classes for 26/27/28 to go with our top5 portal showing in a super competitive environment. It shows this program is getting the support it deserves and trust in the staff. Enjoy the ride!

A lot of focus is on pitching and need for improvement - it feels like we are pretty set (as much as other top/SEC teams) right now going into 2027, even more if Brielle retains her current eligibility ruling.

How about leadoff hitter? We've been blessed last few years, I am wondering if we go the Early route and just start with a great bat with decent but not blazing speed, with Mya in 2 or 3 spot. I am kind of leaning towards one of our freshmen outfielders potentially in this leadoff role, though. Thoughts?

It's early but… Nebraska is WAY too high. They lost too many pieces they didn't reload and did not really help themselves with their incoming freshman class.

Looking through this again… the relative rankings (like 7 vs 9) really don't mean much right now. But besides Nebraska I think Miss State is a stretch to be that high, they don't look like a host team (top16) to me. I would also flip LSU up closer to top10, even though they lost one of my favorite non-Aggie players to Florida.

I think you might be overlooking Franke the last two years both years she's batted over 300 when she's been able to be leading off in an inning. She's batting over 400. She's fast and doesn't strike out very often
and she goes about her business. I think lot of people don't talk about her because she's a little bit shy but she's a fighter and given an opportunity where she doesn't always have to slap. I think she'll do a great job.

Notes from the 7ish innings I watched

Did not see Lessentine anywhere. Rijo was there but not in uniform

Starters were the same as last game I think

1b Mya
2b Paislie
SS KK
3b Aubrey Moore
LF Kelsey
CF Maddox McGee
RF Frankie
C AK

2nd group

1b Maddie
2b Trinity Spencer
SS KK/Paislie
3b Taylor Hampton
LF Milan Torres
CF Jordee Wilkins
RF Scout
C Kennedy Miller followed by PK Kilgore

P Azua 3 innings
P Nikkie Bodeaux 1 inning
P Darby Burnett 3 innings
P brielle Wright 1 inning( maybe more I left after that

Defensively not much to say everyone looked good. Mya did have a fielding error that lead to the 1 run I saw Temple score. Moore looked great at 3rd and a 5-4-3 double play was one of the few highlights. Pitchers got a lot of strikeouts and weakly hit balls so most of the plays were routine and handled. I will say Allen looked much more natural and communicated better than Tallen did last year. She took charge on all fly balls in the right side she could get to and didn't leave it up to the 1st baseman to make the play.

Offensively the highlights were the homeruns which accounted for all 6 runs we scored by the time I left. Kelsey 2, Paislie 1, Maddie 1. Mya expanded the zone a bit after seeing 9 straight balls and ended getting herself out on weak grounder chasing out of the zone. Understandable since this is basically practice and she wants to swing the bat. AK had some nice line drive hits. A single to right and double to left center that I recall.

However the inability to string hits together or score any runs without a long ball was disappointing. Taylor Hampton was robbed of a HR to center. Temple CF went over the wall with her glove and pulled it back in

Base running showed off a lot of speed. Perry is super fast. Rohrlich and Groce also had stolen bases and ran smart.

Pitching Azua was near perfect through her 1st 2 innings. Gave up a solid single and a bit more contact that allowed the runner to move up in the 3rd before the 2 out error on a grounder to 1st that lead to an unearned run. Has good command and stayed around 65-66 with a low to mid 50s change

Bodeaux was a similar speed but appeared to have less movement from my angle but if she was moving the ball left and right I wouldn't really be able to tell. No damage done during her innings

Burnett was also around 65. I thought she looked good. Did work the catcher a bit being a little short on a few drops. Otherwise good command of the zone. For my first time to see her I liked what saw and could easily see her in SEC play.

Wright was the most intriguing pitcher I saw. I left after her first inning of work with Peters in the pen. She have pitched another. Every pitch she threw was 57 or 56 mph. Most spun down with probably 2 feet of drop. Looked like she occasionally mixed a curve or screw at the same speed. Her 57 mph drop had the Temple hitters tied in knots. Even when they knew it was coming they couldn't hit. I am sure she has a mid 40s change but never saw it. Could be an effective 1 inning reliever. Sidne, Sydney, Maddie and Darby are different but all throw 65-67. So slotting Wright between them might be enough to throw off some timing. Honestly sometimes staying that speed with good control and bend can be a dagger to SEC teams for a couple innings when they are used to seeing 65-70.

Fun to be able to sit at the park and watch some ball. Score wasn't what I expected but the outcome was never in doubt. As a whole the team looks more athletic and deeper than in the past. Last year I never felt like they had bats to bring iff the bench. If the ones who did not start today Hampton, Miller, Torres and Spenser all seemed like capable bats that could play in any game. Didn't see Rijo but we know she can also play in the SEC. Some of that group may end up finding a starting spot

So, Lessentine has not been seen yet at a game this Fall? That is kind of a big story.

Do we have any "media" that will ask where she is?

A few observations from today:

-Trish is utilizing the fall to see what she's got in the stable. She's playing as many ppl as she can in as many positions as she can to see what the young bloods and transfers players are capable of doing.

-AK played at 3B after playing catcher for a few innings. With K. Miller coming in as a Gr. student at catcher, I just wonder what Trish has planned for her in terms of positions. Just don't see her bringing in Sr/Grads in to backup positions. That said, who wins in the fall and early spring? Still think AK is the best option at catcher, but could see her at 3B if the freshman don't step up and/or don't show early in the season next yr they're ready.

-The freshman pitcher D. Burnett looks sharp! She's got some good velo and keeps hitters off balance with a good offspeeed. Of course, I want to see her against some better bats and she needs to face some adversity with RISP and some offensive threats that are in the same calibur she'll face in SEC play. The transfer girl from Princeton is intriguing. She does not pitch with overpowering velocity, but her pitches move all over the place! Think she may be a good change of pace like Munnerlyn was to us last year. Peters has looked pretty good. So did Azua. Ready or not, we need them next year.

Regarding Lessentine, if we connect the dots that are her velo was down and she didn't seem right last year with her not playing in the fall....my best guess is she's got some health issues. 100% speculation on my end. Hope she gets well soon if that's the case.

Hitting wise, Mathis absolutely crushed the ball tonight. She hit two no doubters. We are going to need a big season from her. Have seen her primarily in LF. Her range there improves the OF. AK looks amazing. She's easily our best athlete. Great arm and great bat!

Paislee Allen hit a HR off the top of the scoreboard. So impressed with her bat given her size. She's got some pop, but I think she's got to hit a little more for average. Her speed on the base paths is lethal. Hope she takes a big stride this season.

Freshman girls are a mixed bag. Think we have some good bats in Aubrey Moore and Taylor Hampton. They're imo, middle of the lineup of the future bats. They have great frames and look rangy and athletic! Spencer, Perry, and Rohrlich are super fast. Will need their offense to develop, but they're threats on the basepaths. Hope they learn some baserunning skills in the fall. We will need it.

Scout L. has had some chances to swing the bat, she's trying like hell and being aggressive, but she's not finding success yet. I want to see her succeed so bad! She's an amazing baserunner, but I think Trish will want to see her contribute with the bat as a Sr.

Sauni had some pop today, think she's the bat that protects Mya. Will need her to hit for some avg if so. She's got all the heart and spirit in the world!

I think McKee in CF is our leadoff hitter.

Catcher again, will be intriguing to see. Obviously it's AK and K. Miller as the primary options. We have a freshman Presley Kilgore who has a great catcher frame. She hustles and looks like an athlete. Will obviously need to see her develop, but she passes the looks test.

I think Trish sticks with the "if you hit, you play" mantra. It's fun to see the girls out there again. Hope to catch some more scrimmages soon!

Coach did say last summer Lessentine fought through an injury second half of season.
