Going out on a limb and saying after 21 games (with 2/3 season left), Earley needs to be canned. I gave him the benefit last year, but after 4 SEC games, it's apparent that he doesn't have it.

I'd like to see a comparison that shows how many times the shift has worked vs. failed. It's supposedly all about the analytics, but I have a feeling the analytics will say we should stop doing it.

We have who we have until the end of the season. Period.

No amount of whining will change that.

Our pitching has been horrible this year. Kelly needs to go also

Most of my buddies on our group chat have asked the same questions. We gave up two runs tonight because of the shift. I haven't it seen it work enough this season for me to be a believer in the benefits until we get a pitching staff who can refrain from giving up the meatball middle-middle.

I don't know

I could see the 10-year MLB vet on the coaching staff taking over after parents weekend

He didn't get any SEC pitching in the portal and our elite hitters only hit Tuesday pitching. Time to go.

Yep. Failed experiment. I agreed with taking a chance, but it had to be a short leash. Go find an experienced proven commodity.

He should've been fired after being swept by winless Mizzou last season

Yes it was after getting swept by the worst team in sec history. He's just not good and his pitching coach is useless.

Still wouldn't mind seeing Kelly go first though. Let's give that a shot!

How does a guy that's a baseball lifer seemingly have so little feel for the game? I would have PH for Jordan late.

That was the point of no return for me.
In the mix for postseason, hosting winless Mizzou and with season in balance we get swept at home and some the worst baseball I've ever see at the major D1 level.
At that point it was like " well this experiment is over"

Schloss and Del Conte with the kill shot. The minute Vitello said no thanks we were screwed. We did our best at the time, but we can't let that become loyalty that sets us back even further. Need to cut bait (mentally) and start working on who we bring in. Needs to be a huge hire to combat the massive setback.

I'll say this. (Quasi pumper here)

My biggest critique of Earley is that we simply have no identity under him. I mean, zero. It just feels we throw out a disjointed bag of parts onto the field every game and hope they all mash into something that will give us a win. This extends all the way to the beginning of last season too so that is why I am so concerned about it.

We aren't great at anything as a team IMO. We just have super talented players that rise to the occasion more so because they have to. But I see that more as individual effort more than any coordinated plan from Earley.

I know he isn't going anywhere and I am not dooming yet but it is hard for me to feel super optimistic long term about post season appearances at the same time.

Since I'm an Aggie though, I have to hem and haw bout someone in particular though so I will demand the immediate firing of Kelly for now. Was absolutely never on board with him

Hiring Earley wasn't the smartest decision but it was somewhat understandable given circumstances. Retaining him for a 2nd season was a horrifically dumb decision and blame lies right at the feet of our AD. He apparently gives zero ****s about our baseball program,

Fire Earley and let Pennington finish out the season.

The question is, does our leadership have the guts to fire in-season?

Should not have given him $4M fully guaranteed with no buyout de-escalators. Even Kendall said it on Premium. The lowest-paid SEC coach (Mizzou) earns $700k/yr; $800k/yr would have likely done it, with buyout de-escalators after each year. Could have sweetened it with performance-based incentives (not that he'd have earned any of them). No reason to have structured the contract the way we did given the circumstances and lack of leverage on Earley's side.

They won't do it this early, they will wait until the season is mathematically screwed so probably late April or early May.

Nothing will happen until the end of the season.
Doing this **** does nothing but hurt the program.

Paying him that much is crazy insane…… and undeserved

We'll wait until other programs have snatched up the good coaches and hire the #10 guy on our list (assuming we're smart enough to have a list).

Dude did nothing to show that he earned the contract we gave him. Incongruous with what we said when hiring Elko that they need to earn it (after the Jimbo debacle). And, paying him more than the Mizzou coach is generous. I get that's the going rate for SEC coaches but look at how little in comparison Savage (UCLA) is paid - and with California taxes.

3/20 is a bit early but after the fifth SEC series is a good time to get a head start on the coaching search. But unfortunately, based on how we've done things in the past, we're prolly gonna wait until all the good ones are off the board.

Trev hasn't been here long enough to know how he'll handle this. Jimbo was fired mid season but that was the previous AD. Since then we haven't had a coach needing to be fired mid season this badly

I'm still not convinced we couldn't have made a damn solid run at Rob Vaughn if we had wanted to. I have a terrible memory but I don't remember even any rumors of taking an actual pass at him. The only blocker would have been Bama itself but given what we throw around money wise in contracts, we could easily beat them running. Coach Vaughn has been on that good/great line since at Bama but I think with our resources and talent pool, he actually could have turned those into something more than what he has done at Bama so far.
Ball Five

What Vaughn did at UMD was impressive. As was doing more with less in his first year at Bama after the previous coach was fired due to going full Pete Rose. In hindsight, should have hired Vaughn (if he was gettable, which I think he was), and paired his old buddy Earley as the hitting coach/recruiter to keep Jace, Gavin, etc. IIRC Kendall said he was shocked we didn't give him a more serious look.

There were better, much better 2nd tier options over the distinctly inexperienced and unprepared coach we landed.
