It would be great for us if Rothrock is not available but I do not mind facing her at all because we have to face pitchers like her (and Canady!) during regular and post-season play. Win or lose we need the experience, both physically and psychologically.

Note that last year we lost to her in a 2-1 game that we easily could have won. See the box score here:

https://12thman.com/sports/softball/stats/2024/florida/boxscore/21701

The second game was also a 1-run loss for us, in 8 innings. We should have won that one. Indeed, we should have won the first two games.

So, bring her on !!

watched it this morning. Amazing the enthusiasm of Ford, Enright and Vrazel vs Earley and Hensler. but I liked what I heard from both segments. Can hardly wait.

Interesting that conference doesn't have a student athlete availability report for softball. It is required for Football, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball and Baseball only. no softball

Maybe just another major vs minor sport thingy. The first I usually hear about something is by a broadcast announcer on the telly or radio but occasionally in an interview with the coach.

In the recent Diamond Hour Coach mentioned Rylen and Jaz. I have seen them both in the dugout and once or twice Brooke with the pitchers. Are they all considered graduate assistants? I wonder how much they get paid. I do agree with her that having them around is a big help for the team!

good point on the athlete availability.
that question mark on Rothrock and one in the TT OSU series with Canady could change things in both series.

Looks like they are starting a freshman P, was a super star in HS. Need to get to her early.

Pretty fair since we lost two games but to a very, very good team.

I know it might seem like an overreaction given who we were playing, but in my mind you have to find a way to win that series. I don't think I'd classify that as a disappointment, but it was definitely a lost opportunity. We are fighting for a top 8 seed, and losing home series to even elite teams like Florida will hurt even if just a bit.

I agree with you. While I think Florida might be the best offense we face this season, the pitching has to improve outside of Lefty. Even her performance, I think is circumstantial given some of those HR's were on 3-2 counts. Also, situational hitting. Ags are leaving runners on base and that doesn't do any favors vs teams that can hit. And boy do we gotta figure out some offensive production from our catchers. I have liked the way OJO has swung the bat as of late. The Saturday game was brutal. Four runs off two hits in the first inning I think would sink a lot of teams. But I do think it was good for the freshman pitchers to face a lineup like that. Sort of "welcome to the SEC" moment. Do think SL and KM are going to be amazing for us in the future though! Sorry for the long winded response, but yes, Ags gotta find a way to win against these top tier teams. Because t.u. and OU will be waiting in the postseason as well.

I agree. We definitely should have won the third game. Free passes hurt us but the lack of timely hitting did, too. If we cannot score runs it's hard to win ball games. We had several opportunities but just could not do it. We had clutch hits but just not enough. And hopefully our hitters will stop having long slumps. KP was the only one who had multiple hits in a game the whole weekend. I think one had zero hits on the weekend and another one or two had only one hit the entire weekend. Players who have had a lot of hits previous games and weekends just could not do it this past weekend.

Coach has said several times that great teams find a way to win those games. We did that on Friday but not on Sunday.

But we are getting there. If we find a way to stay consistent we can be one of those great teams.

I think we will have to be ranked #6 or higher end of year to get a top 8 seed. It is certainly still possible but will be very difficult in the SEC.

I have to add that this past weekend was far more frustrating for the players than for me. What happens the next several weekends will be a huge tell. I think we will bounce back.

My general idea of a conference formula for an SEC team to get a top 8 seed is this:

Win all your home series
Win 3 of the 5 road series
Get some sweeps
Don't get swept

Most SEC teams that can do this are set up well to be in position for a national seed.

1 series in and we're already behind the curve. So to make up for this they're going to have to do something, somewhere that we don't expect. Maybe it's winning the Georgia series at Georgia. Maybe it's sweeping Bama at home. I think they can get it done.

I watched other SEC games this weekend and without a doubt Florida and A&M are two of the best teams.

I don't disagree, but we opened with the toughest team on our schedule. We don't play Texas or OU, LSU series is a big one. Won the rest of them and we will be in good position. Not like the baseball team that is racking up losses to bad teams.
frankie00

Last year we were 15-9 in conference, good for 3rd. That record will probably be 5th or 6th place this year, in large part because of OU and the sips.

TN - 19-5
FL - 17-7
A&M - 15-9

LSU is always tough and they swept us last year (as did Florida). But every team can beat us if we do not play well.

Before the season started I was thinking we would improve on last year's 15-9 but was not sure by how much, maybe just one or two wins.

One of many guesses for this year, with 8 Series and 24 games:

We sweep 1, 3 wins
We win 6, 12 wins
We lose 1, 1 win
We do not get swept

16-8 record

I enjoy playing with the math and coming up with a lot of scenarios but we have no idea how we will play. IF we play tough Aggie Softball consistently we can better that but it's a big IF.

Next 2 weekends will tell a lot about how this season will go. Auburn will be reeling from being swept on opening weekend. They will come for fight but will have doubt in their minds if can attack early. Bama is still a question to me. I don't think are more than average but we will see. They were down last year and snuck into WCWS. We know LSU and Tenn will be tough series. We will be defined by how the other 5 series go. Need to make hay while we can

Auburn is interesting. This is where early season RPI is bs. Auburn at best, is a borderline too 25 team. The SEC is going to destroy them

I wish we had a midweek game, this week or last, to give the younger/less played pitchers some innings.
