How long do you want to ignore this user?

What a road, from getting injured early and getting back into the lineup to this - very well deserved !!!

And Lefty was the only one able to secure that win? I'm just worried we aren't using the staff coach said she went out to get and we are putting all our eggs into one basket, again.

Apologies, I keep thinking I'm replying directly but apparently not. I need one of my grandkids to show me how to use this

I've been watching Lefty pitch for 4 years now; she needs to throw as often as possible without risking injury because the more she pitches, the better she gets as the season goes on. You will see her throw 2 or 3 times every SEC series from here on out I would bet.

If you have an All American senior pitcher that is capable of pitching 200 innings in a season, why on earth wouldn't you pitch her?

I swear, people questioning decisions after a road SEC sweep is bizarre.

This is why we need mid week games. Too many arms to throw on the weekend. Lefty will pitch every Friday and Sunday. Maybe some Sundays she will close and not get a complete game. You go into the weekend knowing that. Saturday was supposed to 3 innings from Sidne then bullpen. She was efficient so she went 4 and the game ended early.

Next week the other 4 pitchers who didn't throw may fall differently but Emiley will start Friday and pitch Sunday. If Sidne is available I would guess she starts on Saturday. The rest will be as needed and matchups call for.

Then we have a Tuesday and Wednesday to get them innings again

Thats pretty insightful. So maybe it wasn't that Lefty had to pitch so much last year it was more about coaches preference to throw her over others. Don't get me wrong I do think she is good I am just surprised we haven't been throwing our other arms more. Even leading up to conference play she threw a few games that I was surprised we would bother throwing her in.

Megan Gibson pitched every game her senior year. We ended the season as the National runner up. She pitched every inning in the WCWS.

I think last year she did throw too much. Mostly because the rest of the staff couldn't handle Saturday most weekends

Optimally I would like to see another pitcher go one time through the lineup to open the Sunday and make it a shorter game for Lefty. Not sure if coach will do that or not but if you could that 3rd look at her on Sunday it might help

I couldn't find the KPI ranking when posted the other ones.

So you can add the Ags at #2 in KPI

After the Bama series we have six non-conference home games. I think we might see all six pitchers used during those games..

After that, only one more midweek left in the season, vs Louisiana.

The 2008 team was mentioned above, with the dominating Mel Gibson pitching a lot that year. That year was the only time I have been to a World Series. I went to all of the Aggie games as well as those of Louisiana. She threw 302.1 innings that year whilst Rhiannon Kliesing threw 110.1.

Kliesing did come in for Gibson in the loss to Florida, about the 4th or 5th inning, in the WCWS. Other than that Mel Gibson pitched every inning in OKC that year. Unfortunately, ASU shut us out both games in the championship series to take the title. The last game, where they scored a bunch of runs at the end of the game, was truly heartbreaking, to put it mildly.

We also relied heavily on Mel Dumezich, Samantha Show and a couple of others over the years (until Lefty last year) but I think Gibson and Dumezich were the last two really, really dominating pitchers we have had, with waaaay more strikeouts than walks. I have been hoping for years that we would get one like that again. As I have said before, don't get me wrong - Lefty is great, for sure. One of our best pitchers all time. But usually gives up a lot of walks. About a 2-1 strikeout/walk ratio. Gibson was about 5-1. Some of the really awesome pitchers the past 10 years or so (other teams) have been in the 8-1 range and above. Teams with pitchers like that are in OKC regularly. But it's the ones with outstanding hitting to go with that pitching who win it all consistently.

Lessentine 'could be' one of those with a great ratio but we have not seen her enough to know. After she gets some SEC experience and pitches against some great hitting teams in the future we will find out. I think freshman Taylor Brown (redshirted) is possibly one of them. Maybe our next Mel Gibson. We will have to wait and see on her, too. We HAVE signed some pitchers over the years that were outstanding in HS, really awesome numbers, but bombed in college. Always the possibility.

I recall thinking many times over the Summer and Fall that we would not have to rely on Lefty so much this year with such a large staff. We did not have to in non-conference. If our hitting becomes more consistent we might not have to in the near future. But the coaching staff will use who they have to to win games. If that means pitching Lefty a lot so be it.
