No kidding. They're going to be an absolute force by the end of the year when they get their defense figured out.

Glasco is a great coach and they'll get Canady back for another year, so next year is shaping up to be big for them.

It's interesting to see what South Carolina has been able to do under the brand new coach. Sweeping Duke on the road is probably the most impressive performance by an SEC school in the non conference season. Before this weekend our performance in Tallahassee probably would have been. I'm glad we don't have to play them, our schedule is difficult enough.

One thing to think about, if the season plays out like we think it will, we might be looking at a potential rematch with Tech in a super regional here in college station.
South Carolina travels to Norman this weekend. Should be an interesting series!

If Carolina can steal one game in Norman I'll be convinced they're for real this year. I expect OU to win the series, and I'm 50/50 that they sweep the gamecocks.

Fortunately for US they are just outside the 400 mile driving distance. Austin is within the 400 mile drive for them

Austin and Norman were within driving distance for us. Stillwater was not. We were sent to post season in Austin and Norman and never Stillwater because of this.

Still could happen but the NCAA would have to fly them here
Belton Ag

Does that driving distance apply to super regionals? That's what I was saying. I think they're going to host a regional and then possibly be sent here if we are a national seed.

Any trip over 400 miles NCAA pays for flights instead of bus. All levels of postseason. They don't have rule favoring busses officially like they do for regionals because they can't assume the host school wins but it sure seems they fudge the order of the 9 through 16 to make bus trips possible.

Last year they paired Austin-College Station, Stillwater-Fayetteville, and Knoxville-Tuscaloosa

leave it to me to kill a thread. sorry, not sorry.

I just think, if Glasco can turn Tceh around with 10 transfers, things work both ways. the 3 players i mentioned ..... and one is a freshman.

I was particularly impressed with Hellemuth at 3B and Valdez at C. Saw a couple of their games besides when they played us. Good players. Overall I was impressed with their team. I thought it was Canady and nothing else but they have got some players.

Valdez can swat the ball. They are a scrappy ball club. I wouldn't mind avoiding them come playoffs.

Lessentine finally recognized by the SEC. Should have done so after her 19 SO game but better late than never.

Well deserved!

The portal will be interesting next year with roster caps in place. No more carrying the size roster we have this year
frankie00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Correct me if I am wrong but I think the roster size cap will be 25 and schools can fund scholarships for all of them. IF the school wants to. I hope A&M does. It sucks for coaches to have to decide who gets what partial scholarships they have available and being fully funded will end this IF the school funds all of them. If not, same system.
Boozer92

There will be a limited number that will choose to fund all 25 but I suspect the top 50 or so schools will. Maybe less.

The downside is a good number of teams carry more than 25. A&M has 27 I think. I suspect even a greater number than usual will enter the portal with no where to land

For next year. I think 7 players are out of eligibility and only 3 signed. Coaches planned well.

Thanks for confirming the 25 cap and you are almost certainly correct about the large programs funding all scholarships. Have to do it to stay competitive. As for the numbers on the rosters I wrote about this last Summer or Fall - I'm sure coaching staffs keep a really close eye on the number of players on the roster, especially after roster size caps were visible on the far horizon. On paper printouts, charts on walls, on computers, etc. They have had to do this for years for recruiting purposes but also to divvy up partial scholarships. An Excel spreadsheet would be great for this, doing 'what ifs' whilst changing partial scholarships around on the roster. Change one scholarship cell and the total instantly changes and so on.

My numbers match what you have. Currently there are 27 on the roster. With 7 graduating it will be 20. Add 3 signed incoming making 23. Extending out, the following year 5 graduate, leaving 18. With 7 commitments for 2026 it would bring it to 25. This does not account for transfers in our out, of course. But I think a lot of schools will try to keep one spot open, 'just in case'. Never know when a really good prospect might pop up on the transfer portal, one that the coaches really do not want to pass up if at all possible.

A 24 player roster might be 1 DP, 7 OF, 8 IF, 2 C and 6 P. With only two designated catchers it would be almost an essential for one of the players, probably an infielder, to have catching experience, 'just in case'. Madison Sauni, incoming freshman, a power hitter, is listed as C/1B/3B. Presley "PK" Kilgore, class of 2026, is listed as C/3B. Backup infielders or outfielders who can hit really well can take the place of a dedicated DP. Of course, every school has different position desires so this is simply a 'what if' in itself.

Always interesting doing the numbers and looking ahead. But this week looking ahead means the Florida series - BTHO Florida !!

Thank you. Long time TexAgs member. Have a 12 year old doing her thing in softball now and it's awesome. Her love of the game has given me another sport to get into. We are living the dusty…windy dream outside Lubbock now. She's already talking about one day getting to suit up for Coach Ford! Lofty expectations, but that's how we like them right? Gig em.

Florida #3
@ Auburn #17
Alabama #21

Awesome.

My daughter played softball as a kid, but gave it up around 12 to pursue marching band and her dream of being in FTAB. While she was playing softball, she came to several camps at A&M (Coach Jo days) and always had a great time. A few years back, one of our players had played with my daughter in rec ball.

Once my daughter was in band, that switched to band camps at WTAMU. It is a haul to go back and forth between west Texas and College Station, but it should be fun for her if you can pull it off. My suggestion would be to make a vacation of it. Take her to softball camp and then do some stuff on this side of the state before picking her up and heading back.

Coach Jo always told the kids that if they were serious about playing college ball and stuck with it, there would be a level at which they could play.

Idk if anyone saw but Florida HC stated last Friday that their ace pitcher, Rothrock, was going to be put on the IL and was gonna be day to day. She did not pitch last weekend, and it did not seem like she was with the team in Houston. Looks like Aggies won't have to face her this weekend.

I hadn't seen that, that's huge if true
