Record crowd but I am aware that there are always no shows. I did NOT know a single ticket allowed access to all games that day until someone mentioned it in the thread. Living out of state and not attending games means I miss things like that. But every ticket sale and the concession sales are all revenue for Aggie softball so that's a plus.
The two games vs Tech are 'sellouts' but there will still be empty seats. Quite a few, probably. This sucks, to put it bluntly.
Even so, the players and coaches always praise the 12th Man!
It was great for Coach Heffley and his daughter to get together - great pic of it in the photos of the game on the schedule page. His daughter was the only GW player to get on base - how ironic!
A great photo of Lessentine being carried by her teammates on the press release after the game:
https://12thman.com/news/2025/2/28/softball-lessentine-tosses-first-career-no-hitter-in-rule-rule-victoryI really, really dig the first part of the first sentence in the press release - "Sydney Lessentine tossed her first career no-hitter, while KK Dement blasted her first career grand slam and Frankie Vrazel hit her first career home run ..."
THREE FRESHMEN - AWESOME
Lessentine has 42 SO's on the season with only 4 walks. We have needed someone with a ratio like this for years. Lefty is great but last year her ratio was 200/91 and it is 29/11 so far this year. Sidne's is 32/6. Adding Sidne and Lessentine to our rotation is awesome. And we still have Taylor Brown, redshirting this year, to come in after Lefty graduates. From her HS stats she may be another Lessentine. Of course, really good chance these SO/BB ratios will change once conference starts but it is looking really good so far!
Kate Munnerlyn (7.1 innings pitched) and Leavitt (7.0 innings pitched) are still relatively unknowns so far this year. Only time will tell.
The notes on the game show me wrong on what I posted in the thread last night. I wrote that Lessentine's no hitter was the first freshman to do so since Amanda Scarborough in 2005 but it was Rhiannon Kliesing in 2008. I stand corrected! They were both on the 2008 WCWS team.
At this point in the season the starting rotation for three game series, at least the first part of conference, is looking like Lefty, Sidne, Grace and Lessentine. Good chance Lefty will pitch the Friday night game and 'probably' Sidne on Saturday but I think Saturday and Sunday, especially Sunday, are still up from grabs, depending on the opponent.
Not overlooking Tech, of course, but looking to next weekend - Florida is a really powerful offensive machine. Awesome stats on hits, runs, doubles, HR's, etc. They will be very, very tough to beat. Really great we have them at home! Weekends like this in the SEC is why it is really great to have six pitchers on the staff instead of only four like previous years. And much better arms. Much better.
