That has the complete schedule for next weekend.

On Saturday Tech plays Texas St before we play them. Will be an interesting game to see I think
Thanks for the link, appreciate it.

Texas State vs Tech should be a great game. Tech will probably start their 'million dollar arm'. She's beatable but tough to do. They have a pretty darn good offense, too.

Thanks to sdcable for posting the video of the squeeze bunt !!! When it happened I was happy as heck but also bummed because I did not think I would ever seen video of it - but I did - whoop !!!

I definitely saved it, along with links to the extended highlights (they are usually about 20 minutes for 7 inning games) of the two FSU games. I save this stuff and watch them during summer and fall (have to feed my softball addiction during off season) - and these three will certainly be 'must watch several times'!

Just in case anyone interested am pasting links to the two FSU games below. I broke the links in two so it would not show large pics (hopefully not!) on the post but just combine them and paste them in a browser to watch. Also posting on the main softball thread.

Softball America poll is out and Aggies jump from 8th to 5th. The other three polls at the following site come out tomorrow:

Mya gets SEC player of the week. Well, co-player since the SEC started doing the 'co' stuff every week.

I really thought Lessentine would get at least freshman of the week and even pitcher of the week but no doing. I suppose 19 SO's in a 7-inning game for the freshman did not ring a bell for the kids at the SEC. If a freshman on Florida or Alabama or Georgia or ... some of the others she would have received both.

Oh well.

The SEC is a minefield every year. Adding the sips and OU make it even more so. And the rankings always change a lot once conference starts. Our first conference series vs Florida will be really tough but at least it is at home this year. The coaches and players definitely have that weekend circled after last year. LSU series circled, too, also after last year.

But we still have this coming weekend and it will be tough, too, but back home at Davis will surely help!

We know about Tech's million dollar arm but what about Texas State this year, after they lost Jessica Mullins to graduation? We saw their new freshman in the regional last year and she is doing well this year. They have another good one, too, Emma Strood. A junior transfer from LSU. Both have very, very good strikeout to walk ratios.

Their hitting is down from previous years but they are still dangerous.

Four polls out on the following page. Aggies move up in all of them (light green cells):

Change at the top of two of them.

5 seems right to me for now. I don't agree with moving OU to #1 in some polls. They have good wins against San Diego St and Baylor but overall a pretty soft non conference schedule. A&M, tu and UCLA have challenged themselves more in the non conference.

For the Ags it will pay off if they can take care of business in the SEC. 5 or maybe 6 SEC teams will get a top 8 national seed at the end of the year. Non conference quad1 games will likely be the difference

I am glad you brought up OU. They have had 'soft' non-conference games over the years BUT they still won 4 consecutive national championships. Knocking off great teams during the NCAA tournament year after year.

Early this morning I looked at their schedule. See link below. Their Strength of Schedule is currently at 210. Compare their non-conference schedule to their upcoming conference schedule.

https://www.warrennolan.com/softball/2025/schedule/Oklahoma

When I found out they were joining the SEC I wondered how they would do. This season we will find out. I do not think they will win it all this year but they might well do it yet again. They have had outstanding signing classes for years and have picked up some outstanding transfers the past few years. I think they were one of the first teams to really take advantage of NIL with their Love's money. AND, this year they have the transfer pitcher from Louisiana and she is having a really good year. Now check out the following 2025 commitment page (see below). How many of the top players are committed to OU? A ton, as usual. They DO have a really good coaching staff and their recruiting is second to none - and we know how much that helps after Coach Ford and company came on board! And you guys KNOW how much I love our freshman class !! <silly grin>

https://www.perfectgame.org/softball/Rankings/PlayerRankings.aspx?sprid=7

Can their dominance continue? We'll find out!

A side note: I think our 20-0 loss to them in the 2022 Norman Regional final was the 'last straw' that led to us getting a new coaching staff. If so, we can thank OU for our current success !!

I will disagree somewhat with your take. In past years, OU always played a very strong non-conference schedule. A big reason for that is that outside the very top of the Big 12, the rest of the conference was weak and not playing a strong non-conf schedule would hurt OU's RPI.

Now that OU is in the SEC, the conference schedule is going to take care of any SOS/RPI concerns. That coupled with the fact that OU's new ballpark is now open, OU is now hosting most non-conf games.

I agree with Plano here. OU normally has a tougher non conference schedule. This one not so much. The SEC gives everyone plenty of RPI but seeding among similar SEC normally is decided by non conference SOS. With OUs past history they will probably be fine with seeding. No one else could play that schedule and hope to be a top national seed short of winning the SEC

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate it! One of the things I like about the softball forum here!

They have had soft non-conference games over the years. So have we and other schools. And they almost always play at least one tourney in CA, often the Mary Nutter classic. This year it is a softer than previous years but they HAVE played some tough opponents early and beat them in years past.

Did not mention the Big 12 because it was a given that there were only a few teams at the top. Even so they STILL did well post season. That's huge. That's why I pointed this out. UCLA, Florida, Stanford, etc. - they were all mowed down.

But note that I said they always beat the best teams in the country during post-season. No matter how easy or tough their schedule was they always played lights out in the tournament. I would have to go back and check but I do not think they lost more than about three games in post-season the past four years. Total. That's regional, super regional and WCWS! Their team from a couple of years ago lost only one game (Baylor). I think that may have been the best ever softball team in the country. Not just an OU team but all teams. Even better than the awesome UCLA teams in the past. If they had played, as a team, in the Olympics that year they would have won it all.

Note that I also complemented their coaching staff and recruiters. I know many OU fans and I always tell them that whoever does their scouting for recruits and transfers is one of the best in the business, if not the best. Before Coach Ford and staff came along I told them that I was always hoping that our AD would hire their entire staff! But now? I would not trade our coaches and staff for anyone !!!

Looking at Texas St ahead of the game Thursday. They haven't played tough competition yet.

Keely and AC leading the team in BA and HR respectively.

Thanks for the update on Keely and AC! It's great that they are both starters! Keely was in LF for us until Kramer beat her out and AC was a PH. They have been playing Keely at CF and AC at 1b and DP.

Interesting tidbit from a recent Coach Ford interview - Coach Heffley's daughter plays for George Washington, listed as C/UTL. A grad student. Got her bachelors at Harvard.

I recall either last year or the year before we played Missouri at Davis. Cottril's dad was their hitting coach. I think she put three out of the park that weekend!

North Texas scores 6 runs in the bottom of the 7th to defeat Texas Tech 6-5. Very interesting box score and play by play in the bottom of the 7th:

Game Day !!!

Press release for the tournament:

Brings up 2 out hitting again. I recall we were very good at 2 out hitting last year, too.

With KK and Frankie starting this year, along with the freshman pitchers getting a lot of playing time, prospective recruits may give us more of a look because they all want to start immediately. Knowing that the coaches WILL start freshmen is a huge plus in recruit's decision-making process.

One of our signees for next year is Annsley Groce, OF, from Keller, TX. A .625 BA and 55 SB's. Kramer and Allie graduate this year so perhaps she will be next year's Frankie. It is Koko's last year, too, so having another speedster on the bases will be very nice. The following year we have #2 and #3 ranked OF'ers coming in. It IS early to think about this but I am always looking ahead!

REGARDING GAME ATTENDANCE SATURDAY NIGHT...

Howdy!

We live in CS and attend softball games occasionally but never have during a tourney. We have GA tix for the Tehc game on Saturday night. Does anyone have advice on parking? When should we get there? Do they make fans leave the stadium between games? TIA

Can't help with most of your questions but I usually just park at Reed and walk right over. There will be plenty of parking even with the SEC Track and Field Championship going on.

Fans don't have to leave between games, your ticket is good for the day. I got there about 30 minutes ahead of game time when I went the first weekend. I don't know what the crowd will be like with us playing Tech. As mentioned parking wasn't a problem and you can get pretty close by parking at Reed.

Enjoy! I wish I was back in town to go watch.

Park at Reed. Probably will be a decent crowd. Stadium doesn't clear between games and your ticket is good for all games. Game ahead of us is Tech vs Tx Stare which should also be a decent game.

I prefer to park at Tennis when track is happening. This weekend is SEC indoors so I would think most of those people will park at Olsen. Either Reed or the Tennis lot should have plenty of parking. Tech plays Texas St on Saturday before the A&M game. Your ticket is good for the whole day but the last 2 games should be good

Big matchup in the Judi Garman Classic today - UCLA (14-2) vs LSU (14-0), at 2:00 Central.

Both are at or above #6 in various polls.

UCLA plays Notre Dame (8-7) afterwards whilst at 7:00 LSU plays Cal State-Fullerton (11-5).

The Ags have played in this tournament several times over the years. Sometimes doing really well, sometimes not so well.

FYI: The lot directly across from the field towards the tennis courts (the small one) is supposed to be handicapped only, but so far this year, that has not been enforced.
