Saturday's game. Through five innings. Cannot judge performance based on a game vs Blinn but some of the starting positions were interesting. Coach Ford HAS talked in the past about her liking to try players at different spots, even positions they have never played or have not done so in years. Realizing, of course, this was just a practice game and anything goes ...

Amari in LF. Gosh, we have six OF's on the roster (although Scout is a converted IF'er). This was certainly unexpected. I think Amari has started at every infield position whilst at A&M but not OF. She IS a great athlete so ...

KK Dement at 2B. This was not unexpected. I think she is the only freshman Coach has talked about BY NAME in any interview. She played a great IF in HS. I was thinking that Amari might have the advantage at 2B this year because Coach loves experience but there are a lot of talented IF'ers on the roster so I list that position as a capitilized UNKNOWN.

Perez at 1B. Whilst she played the position in HS, AND a few times last year, Coach DID sign graduate transfer Mac Barbara who made one error at 1B last year and was first or second on the team in most hitting categories. Certainly cannot read anything into this because, again, it was a practice game vs Blinn.

Barbara put in at 3B in the second. THIS was unexpected. But one error at 1B last year tried out at the hot corner - why not?

Dee Dee seeing playing time at C. This was certainly expected. I think she or the senior transfer Johnson will be the starter with Gracyn being third string. I think hitting will be the deciding factor in who starts. And certainly who works better with the pitchers.

The games vs the sips and Texas State will tell us a lot more about the team. Though 'technically' practice games every player will treat these games as 'the real thing'! The two Maroon and White games will also be great. In large part because most if not all of the players will get playing time. They are both scheduled for 7 innings but I would love to see 10 innings each. Perhaps Coach will change them to 10 innings each!

I wrote in this thread not too long ago that Coach reported almost all of the team, including all the freshmen, were on campus this summer. This was/is outstanding and says a LOT about the players!

Enough for now except have to add I hope somone is able to report from the rest of the Fall games. Those of us who cannot attend really appreciate it! McLennan CC will be this Wednesday at 6:00, also at Davis Diamond. The only away game this Fall will be the last one vs Texas State.

Leavitt had a solid outing. Velo looked a tick up from last year

Sidne Peters was lights out. I think struck out all batters she faced. Wasn't keeping score so correct me if I remember incorrectly

Sparks was shaky. Threw too many balls. Gave up the only run of the game but I think it was unearned with an error following a lead off walk

Freshman Sidney Lessentine looked really promising. Good Velo. High swing and miss rate. 4 or 5 strike outs in her 2 innings.

Mullerlyn and Brown both threw in the pen but did not play in the game

Kennedy threw the last inning. 3 strike outs with 1 hitter reaching E6. I think there was a miscommunication on the pitch that was put in play and lead to the error. There was quick visit from Trish after that a bat that I thought there was a discussion of either Kennedy misread the wristband or coach pressed the wrong button. She was unhittable every other pitch

Mac hit another bomb. Mari had nice rbi double. Powell was a pest on the bases. Freshman Frankie Vrazel had a couple nice a bats. Overall hitting was not great today. Not bad but just not what you would expect facing a JUCO team

Defensively hard to say. MCC didn't put enough balls in play to really stress the defense. Most of the team got some time on the field but no one stood out good or bad. Just did their job mostly. Off the top of my head KP bobbled a slow roller to 3rd just long enough for the runner to be safe. Not sure if that was an error. Reagan Jones had an error at 3rd on a slow roller and KK had a throwing error in a low throw from short on a chopper. None were egregiously bad errors and can be cleaned up easily enough. Play was generally solid in the chances they had.

Mac stood out to me when she came in to play 1st. Seemed to have a good presence and showed good leadership of the defense. Could of saved KK from the error with a better pick but I liked her demeanor. Will be a player for the team this year

Ojo and Koko were both in the dugout but neither played tonight. If was keeping up correctly I think Vestal was the only other position player to not get any action

Overall fun night at the park. I am excited to see what this team becomes in the spring.

Friday may have a completely different vibe. Even though it is just a practice game there will be intensity and pressure of an SEC game. That will be interesting to see how players react to that. The final score isn't as important as seeing who thrives in that environment and who isn't ready quite yet. Too bad the schedule conflicts with both soccer and volleyball that night. May limit the fans who will be able to attend

Fairly accurate portrayal of what it seemed like the game. The only thing was Rylen Wiggins was the bat girl last night. She would have loved to get an at bat

Rylen as Bat Girl - love it! A chance to be back in the dugout with the team, a chance for the returners to have fun with her and a chance for the 14 new players to meet her. I am sure they have heard stories about her so that's great! The roster shows Sidne wearing her number so they got to meet, also soooo cool.

Rylen was always so serious and I appreciated that a lot. Make an awesome play, an impossible stop, and then calmly walk back to her position after doing so. No dance moves, like some players, no jumping up and down, no nothing. Cool, calm and collected.

Game Day. First game in an Aggie uniform vs the sips for the 14 new players (some may have played them before whilst wearing another uniform) - a great day!
