Lack of OF specialists. We have hitters playing OF. It frustrates me as I see multiple times our OF play has cost us bases and runs.

I hope to see the day when we have 2-3 guys know how to play OF at an elite level.

Would you rather have an OF specialist who hits .290 with 5 bombs or Jace and Braden who aren't very skilled defensively who hit .330 and 25 bombs?

Our best OF just had a chance to throw the guy out at the plate and we cut it to appeal the runner at 3rd who wasn't even close to leaving early.

We had have pitching issues for awhile especially with starting pitching over the past few weeks and that is our #1 problem which isn't going to get solved anytime soon.

Our fundamentals have definitely taken a nosedive the last few weeks. Missing the cutoff man, throwing to the wrong base, etc. has become all too common recently. This team is in a funk right now, too to bottom. Hope we snap out of it quickly.

How about ..... if we aren't recruiting OF that can hit...

Our OF practice the fundamentals of OF play ....except they should have been doing it all along. BM is the only OF arm and rarely does anything like an OF should. Sorrell is our best OF but is average and needs fundamental work.

While it hasn't been great lately, I'll take 2 guys who can slug 25+ HRs with >1.200 OPS with questionable defense over a bunch of scrawny defensive minded guys with ~.800 OPS.

Sorrell's defense is really good. Jace and Monty are at worst average college CF and RF.

I acknowledged that already in a different post. He needs to learn to get behind the ball and come forward, his footwork during OF fly balls is not great, especially if you don't have a cannon. It takes him too long to catch the ball and get a strong throw.

Until a couple of routine OF plays costs us an important game, which hopefully doesn't happen this year.

LOL when is the last time we lost a game BECAUSE of pitching? Can't really say today either because we scored two freakin runs against garbage pitching. Two.

This is where I come out on this as well. The pitching hasn't been great, no, but the bats have been pretty atrocious lately outside of a 19-9 and 14-4 anomaly. They've been the Achilles heel

Maybe. But what I'm seeing reminds me a lot of 2008. This team three weeks ago easily sweeps this weekend and last.

Oh man, I was thinking of that 2008 team today. Super talented but hit a slump about this time in the season and never pulled out. I think this team is better and by the time we get past the SEC tournament we'll be laughing at this. But no guarantees in baseball.

Sorrell is legit OF. Jace and Monty are out there for their bats. I called out the outfielders last weekend and it didn't go over well, but it's a legit observation. Monty tends to get a bit lazy or doesn't have great vision and Jace should never be in CF despite his improvement over last year. Their arms are wild when it matters and closing speed could be better. This team is built for offense, not defense. We can still be very, very good down the stretch but you aren't going to see Jace or Monty laying out for a line drive or hosing anyone at home plate. And that's okay p once you accept it. Schloss clearly has accepted it.

Braden has a live arm. That is worth something in the outfield. Its a weapon. And Sorrell ain't there because of his bat.

Glaring trend, we have 1 and 2 in the top rated OF in the nation. There isn't a team in D1 that wouldn't change OF with us right now. Yes, we need to clean some stuff up but everyone does. Have some perspective.

Brauny said a MLB scout told him to watch the kid today so maybe it wasn't garbage pitching.

MLB draft projections do not agree with the assessment of "average", at all. I know you said at worst, so sure, at worst. But these are currently two of the most elite in the sport.

Monty: projected 2024 RD 1 in the 10-20 range
Jace: projected 2025 RD 1 in the 1-5 range

Yes they can hit but average college OFs are not taken with early day 1 money.

You are out of your mind. We have had 2-3 guys playing OF at an elite level all season. Jace in particular makes it look so easy you apparently don't even realize he's making great plays.

Maybe stick to raging about a sport you have a little more knowledge about.

He certainly made not knowing where he was look easy, made missing his jump to catch the ball look easy too by bumping into the wall, his throws are rarely on line but I guess in baseball they don't need to be.

Well he still has an ERA over 5 even after giving up only one run yesterday and lowering his era. Yeah, he's garbage.
