It's not really discretion. Just prod along. Get after the guy who everyone is waiting on. May be the pitcher, may be the batter.

Don't grant the batter a time out in the middle of a windup.

The ONLY negative thing about the pitch clock is that some pitchers are starting to blame it for injuries, which may or may not be legit.

But to say the game is unwatchable BECAUSE of the pitch clock is ridiculous. If anything, it was becoming unwatchable before due to both the pitchers and batters putting on an effing performance in between each pitch.
