A good buddy of mine pitched at tu and Tanner Witt is his nephew. He told me they basically put out that it would take $X to sign him in the 2020 draft or he'd go to Texas.

Clearly he didn't get that. It may end up costing a lot due to the TJ surgery and how he hasn't looked very good coming back. But he really needs another 6 months of work to be back to 100%.

Damn. That's one way to build a solid team (other than NIL and transfers ).

That's cool. We should always strive to have a Moss on the team.

With Tanner Witt, The Longs are a very "Longhorn" family and the value they put on the Longhorn education/experience is different than typical recruits. I would not use his situation to compare to draft picks. I believe it to be unique.

Talked to a few people that know the family and the kid was pretty dead set on going to Bama and had a certain number set in his head for signing bonus. Said he had 5 teams call him to tell him they were going to draft him and none were close to his number, the third team was the closest. Sounds like he was wanting $4-5+ million and would not accept a penny less.

Between going to a school that the head coach just got fired for gambling and getting the chance to get $3+ million the kid is taking a risk. From a quick search the highest paid NIL player in college baseball is around $60k. I understand staying to have the opportunity to make more in a few years but with all of the pitchers needing TJ it is a huge risk staying.

I think he is gone unfortunately they probably talked to him and he will go slightly under slot and start his journey

After round 10 you can pay 125k without needed money from your bonus pool. You don't get credit for anything under 125k towards your bonus pool, so no advantages to underslot except to just save money.

If someone wanted him underslot I would have expected him to go rounds 6-10.

Brandyn Garcia to the Mariners in the 11th as well

Former Aggie RHP Khristian Curtis was taken in the 12th round. He played here in 2021 (red-shirt) and 2022.

My comments were only directed at Tanner Witt, not familiar with the other players. Just did not think it was appropriate to use Witt as an example when his situation was unique.

I understood, it related to this player perfectly as both had 7-8 figure deals (depends on how many years they sign for) and turned them down to go to college for whatever reason. I knew too many people that got injured, especially pitchers, that went the college route and got injured before they had the chance to go pro.

In baseball if you get a chance to make life changing money you take it. TJ is all too common now and most come back from it but for me it is not worth the risk. Hitters like Sorrell and Grahovac have a better chance of developing without getting a major injury that can only increase their stock. Unless you go to a school like LSU that takes the baseball NIL very seriously I would default to going pro if I were a pitcher that could get drafted in the first few rounds.

I would think he is signing or at least considering it if the Red Sox can free up some extra pool money.

Isaac Morton was selected by the Brewers in the 19th as well. Actually beat out Pagliarini to be the first recruit taken.

Brauny said in premium that Morton will not sign and will report to campus. Jury is still out on Pagliarini.
