Agree completely that we need to build at another site. Your spot, close to the Bush Library, north of the Bonfire Memorial, anywhere.twk said:
There just is no fix in the current location. We have zero room to move the field, and knocking down existing structures would not be cost effective, and would require relocation for a season or two. We need to build new.
It seems that the powers that be are telling Schloss that there is no space for a ballpark in the campus master plan. This is ridiculous. The master plan that was drawn up in 2017 (easy to find with a Google search) is an urban planners fantasy, that would do things like eliminate 2/3 of the surface parking at Olsen (in favor of a new volleyball facility and a practice diamond) and eliminate 90% of the surface parking at Reed (to be replaced by "green space," more buildings for administrators who don't teach, and a couple of parking garages). Basically, whoever drew it up wants to build double the space for paper pushers, eliminate all surface parking, and get everyone riding mass transit. It will never happen.
Someone who has the ear of the regents needs to make the case that space can, and must, be found for a new ballpark. Do that, and then you have a chance to raise the money. But without a vision, it will never happen.
My proposal is that we take the land lying at the SE corner of the intersection of Olsen Boulevard and University and use it for a new ballpark.
There are a few small buildings in this area, but they are all slated to be demolished as part of the master plan.
Demolishing them for a new ballpark rather than more office space for administrators would be appropriate.
This would allow us to keep the railroad tracks as part of baseball, put us close enough to Northgate and the Northside dorms for people to walk to games, and provide enough space for us to put all the baseball facilities we will need in one location. It would also free up the Olsen space for other uses. I could imagine repurposing Olsen for use as a soccer facility (which, along with the old softball field, would free up another tract).

I also think the new College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts building (evidently the first of two) will be built somewhere in that area.
Congrats. Just seems like the land by Bush would be perfect for those 2 buildings.TXAGBQ76 said:
There is also supposed to be a Museum of Natural History in the works
I'm with you though, the University and Athletic Department's support for Aggie baseball needs to step up
I can't be too hard on the new College of P,V and FAs, as my daughter is the new Development Director for it in the Foundation (I know, humble brag!)- I'm very proud of her and that gets my grand boys in town!
Now we are talking.Hornbeck said:
Need a new retractable roof stadium...
Yep. Politics seems to control everything.TXAGBQ76 said:
I remember when I was there, there definitely instructors and professors who articulated their dislike for athletics and the Corps.

Seems like the biggest thing keeping us from building a new stadium is money. I'm sure space could be found if there was a lead donor ready to pony up $40-50MM. I guess we don't have any BMA's that care much about baseball. Mediocre football will get all our money from here to eternity.
I am ready to donate to the new park, but I don't have lead donor money. I gotta think if we threw money at baseball like we do football, with Schloss on board, we would build an elite program.

I've had a new thought today….
Is the Rec Center a sacred cow?
It is quickly approaching its 30th birthday, albeit it was renovated a while back. I think that was just the weight room. But, let a few more years pass, like I mentioned in earlier posts, and then we "might" have a chance to some wheeling and dealing among the university leadership. We're going to need a new basketball arena sooner than later and if the rRec Center isn't a sacred cow, then athletics could "potentially" have an opportunity to address to venues at one time, and perhaps have an integrated design.
Call me crazy.
That's a point that should not be overlooked, and why I suggested the location that I did. The buildings on my tract are scheduled to be demolished, at some point, under the master plan, so finding PUF money to build a replacement (somewhere else) is already part of the plan.Bondag said:Buford T. They just finished an expansion on it in the last few years. And paid out of student funds.
That would definitely beat out anywhere around the Bush Library, especially for us old folks. But, my suggested location would be a little more convenient with regard to the Northside dorms and most of the private dorms at Northgate. I'd be happy with either. At this point, I'd settle for something out by the Equine Center if they built it right.Quote:
And supposedly the land north of the Bonfire memorial (which I think old be the best location as you can tie it in with Century Square and it is on main campus) has been promised to a Museum of Natural Science, with classrooms also.
Agree. Just do it right.twk said:That would definitely beat out anywhere around the Bush Library, especially for us old folks.
