As far as ragging/heckling players......
Way back in the day when I was at Olsen for pretty much every game, we routinely ragged on opposing players. We eviscerated umpires and MJ on more than one occasion. It's part of the game as a player, coach and umpire.
I don't recall much ragging on our own players outside of an error or sitting on a strike 3 call (which we did way too often back then). But it was pretty much limited to baseball ragging, nothing personal that I remember. I don't think personal or way out of bounds would have flown.
We had more than one left fielder for opposing teams come and give us props back when Aggie Alley existed because of how....creative...we could get. God forbid the left fielder had a weird last name or screwed up and didn't make a play they could have - we were absolutely relentless and merciless. And a lot of alcohol was involved as well. It's the game and an integral part of it, especially when you get to that level and above.
We didn't have dancing girls then. I would not have minded one bit had they been a part of the production. At least 1/3 of MLB teams, and maybe closer to half of them, have some form of dancing girls as entertainment. It's far from some minor league/bush league phenomenon. But there are still going to be plenty of Ags that think anything women at sporting event is somehow violating some sacred Aggie biblical text (it isn't) and be against it on principle regardless. The few times we had yell leaders at Olsen it was cringe worthy - they just don't translate to baseball at all. Couldn't speak for basketball, but assume pretty close to the same there as well.
Fans yell, rag and get so emotional they often say things out of anger or exasperation that they ordinarily wouldn't say. With A&M baseball I'm guessing it is decades of substandard results on the field bubbling to the surface, especially after how last season ultimately ended up. And not understanding that even though Portland isn't some historical powerhouse it doesn't mean that they don't have good players or that because baseball is a finicky sport of streaks and appeasing the Gods that even a far more talented team can still lose a game or two when everything doesn't line up early in the season like fans want it to.
